Summary
- Ethel Cain has returned with her sophomore album, Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You.
- The 10-track record centers around her first love, Willoughby Tucker
Ethel Cain is back with her second album titled “Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You“. This melancholic work, as described by the artist herself, can be seen as a single extended love ballad.
This 10-song album functions as a precursor to Cain’s initial LP, “Preacher’s Daughter” (2022), and narrates the tale of Cain’s first romantic interest, Willoughby Tucker. Over the past year, Cain has been the one responsible for both recording and producing this album, even though the lyrics for these tracks have been penned throughout her career.
I find it more challenging to accept that this release has arrived compared to ‘Preacher’s Daughter.’ Initially, I believed I disliked this album, but upon reflection, I discovered it impacts me significantly more than ‘Preacher’s Daughter’ did at the time of its release. It remains raw and emotionally intense, leaving me feeling overwhelmed by its authenticity. This might be the most genuine record I’ve ever produced.
She mentioned that her preferred song from the album is “Willoughby’s Theme,” and she noted that the song “Perverts” was created afterwards because she made “Willoughby’s Theme” first with Matthew Tomasi. She elaborated, saying, “I aimed to musically express the disorienting, overwhelming sensation of falling in love and recognizing that no matter what transpires within it, you will inevitably be altered by it.” This sentiment still resonates with me today.
