New ‘Final Destination’ Movie in the Works Following ‘Bloodlines’ Big Success

The New Line Cinema company is pushing ahead with a new movie from the “Final Destination” series, following the impressive box office performance of “Final Destination: Bloodlines.” Lori Evans Taylor, who collaborated with Guy Busick on writing “Bloodlines,” has been enlisted to pen the script for the upcoming seventh installment in this popular horror franchise.

In May, the film titled “Bloodlines” grossed approximately $286 million globally, with a staggering $138.1 million earned within the U.S. alone. This places it at the top of the franchise’s list for highest-grossing films. Interestingly, its production cost was around $50 million. Notably, this is the first film in the series to be released since 2011 and serves as a partial prequel, starting with an incident in 1969 before fast-forwarding through half a century.

Returning Producers

Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor, along with the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jon Watts, return, accompanied by his wife Dianne McGunigle and Toby Emmerich. Warren Zide will serve as executive producer. Notably, Watts was responsible for the story of Bloodlines and contributed creatively to it as well.

Expanding the Franchise’s Scope

Perry suggested that partially basing the film “Bloodlines” in the past allows for a variety of new settings and plotlines in subsequent movies. This setup enables each installment to explore distinct time periods and scenarios, all while maintaining the core concept: characters who survive a prophesied catastrophe are pursued by Death.

The series’ adaptability has maintained its appeal among viewers since the initial “Final Destination” movie premiered in 2000. To this day, the franchise has amassed a staggering worldwide gross of over $983 million, placing it as New Line Cinema’s third-highest grossing horror series, following only “The Conjuring” and “It.

Taylor’s Other Projects

Taylor is among a small number of women consistently active in the horror genre. Recently, she adapted Carla Norton’s serial killer novel, “The Edge of Normal,” into a film featuring Chloë Grace Moretz, which was completed earlier this year. Additionally, her work includes the psychological thriller “Cellar Door” and her debut directorial project, “Bed Rest.” She also adapted “I Am Still Alive” for Universal, with Ben Affleck set to star and produce in the film.
