Weapons Box Office Off to a Killer Start With $5M+ Thursday Previews

Zack Cregger’s fresh horror film titled “Weapons” is showing promising earnings at the movie theater, anticipating to gather more than $5 million during its Thursday pre-releases.

This performance seems to surpass “Sinners” with a box office revenue of $4.7 million, and it may match or even outperform both “Final Destination: Bloodlines” ($5.5M) and “28 Years Later” ($5.8M).

Not only did films like “Sinners” (earning $365.8M globally) and “Final Destination: Bloodlines” ($285.3M) prove to be box office successes, but “28 Years Later” ($150M), initially performing well, unfortunately saw a rapid decline in earnings, ultimately costing Sony an estimated $75M.

In simpler terms, the film “Weapons” is said to have a relatively low production budget of $38 million. This implies that its break-even point, the amount needed to cover all costs, is approximately $95 million.

Bloodlines’ had a budget of about $50 million, and ’28 Years Later’ was produced with around $75 million.

I haven’t watched “Final Destination: Bloodlines”, but I’m a fan of “Weapons” and “Sinners”. I can’t stand “28 Years Later”, and “Weapons” outperforms it significantly, in my opinion. To be precise, “Weapons” is far superior to Cregger’s “Barbarian”, as it grossed $45M in 2022 on a budget of just $4.5 million.

On Thursdays, previews for the movie “Weapons” outperformed Disney’s “Freaky Friday,” earning $3M. As a result, it looks promising that “Weapons” will claim the top spot at the box office this weekend.

Predictions suggest that the movie “Weapons” could earn at least $30 million during its opening weekend, with potential for even higher earnings. Critics’ scores on Rotten Tomatoes are encouraging (96% audience score and 90% critic score), and buzz among viewers is strong. As I previously mentioned, it’s best to simply go watch the film without reading any reviews or watching trailers.
