John Cena Reveals Doing Hair Transplant at 48 and Why He Wished to do It 10 Years Ago

John Cena, who appears fearless both in wrestling matches and movies, admitted that hair loss was a personal concern for him despite keeping it private. The renowned WWE figure and actor disclosed that he underwent a hair transplant procedure in November 2024, following persistent comments from fans about his thinning hair.

Fans prompted the decision

In a conversation with PEOPLE, John Cena revealed that a pivotal moment occurred when he attempted to conceal his hair loss during wrestling bouts, but the spectators caught on. “While I was trying to disguise my hair loss,” he reminisced, “the crowd was actually drawing attention to it.” Seeing their signs reading “The bald John Cena,” they motivated him to explore his available solutions.

According to Cena, the process he underwent was quite simple. He described it as “they just shift your hair strands from one location to another without performing any other actions.” Afterward, he’s been following a regular maintenance regimen that includes red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, and conditioner.

Cena acknowledged that the societal prejudice associated with hair loss had prevented him from dealing with it earlier. “I regret that if there wasn’t such a stigma attached to it, I could have addressed it a decade ago,” he expressed. “I felt isolated, but it turns out that seven or eight out of ten men grapple with thinning or baldness. If someone criticizes me for that, I don’t think it’s something to be ashamed about. It significantly altered the trajectory of my life.

Here’s how it boosted his acting career

Through a hair transplant, Cena revealed, he’s discovered fresh avenues in acting. “A new hairstyle could help me land roles that bring more opportunities, allowing me to pursue what I enjoy,” he expressed to PEOPLE. His career in Hollywood has been thriving, with notable appearances in films like Trainwreck, Fast & Furious, and his successful HBO Max series Peacemaker, which is set to return for season 2 on August 21.

He remarked that taking on the role of Peacemaker had significantly impacted his life. He described it as an exceptional production that offers more than just action-packed scenes. Instead, it’s a heartwarming love story, intertwined with humor from its workplace setting.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Cena is embarking on his WWE farewell tour, intending to hang up his wrestling boots in 2025. Age, it seems, has had an impact on this decision, as he acknowledges that he’s not as robust or agile as he used to be. True to his word, he’s vowed to retire when the time comes for him to ease off from the sport.

Since 2020, engineer Shay Shariatzadeh is now Cena’s spouse. He recently mentioned that he’s devoted more attention to his health and family, making his personal well-being and dedication to his partner his highest concerns.
