Dave Bautista Joins Henry Cavill In Highlander As Kurgan

Dave Bautista will take on the role of one of the most notorious villains in the world of sword-and-sorcery films. According to industry reports, Bautista has been chosen for the part of Kurgan in Chad Stahelski’s upcoming reboot of Highlander, which also features Henry Cavill and is nearing completion on its deal.

Initially, Clancy Brown portrayed the character in the 1986 film, where Christopher Lambert took on the role of Connor MacLeod, and Sean Connery played Ramirez. In this movie, Kurgan was a formidable opponent, vying for “The Prize,” a powerful collective force wielded by all immortals. This character was infamous for his ruthless actions such as killing, looting, and decapitating other immortals.

In a fresh retelling by Stahelski, the timeless tale of eternal combatants, the Highlander, will once again unfold across centuries, culminating in a climactic showdown for supreme authority. Cavill assumes the role of MacLeod, with Russell Crowe confirmed to portray Ramirez. Additionally, Marisa Abela has been added to the cast as a novel immortal warrior character – a master of swordsmanship and a past lover of MacLeod.

Bautista’s Busy Schedule

Besides starring in Highlander, Deadline has announced that Bautista will feature in Road House 2 alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, reprising his character Dalton from the 2024 Prime Video hit. Additionally, Bautista’s future projects consist of Trap House, The Wrecking Crew with Jason Momoa, and the Zellner Brothers’ alien comedy titled Alpha Gang.

Just lately, I’ve had the privilege to be part of the cast in “Dune: Part Two”, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, and “The Last Showgirl”. Quite a thrilling journey, if I may say so myself!

About Highlander

As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled about the upcoming reboot! It seems this new version will delve deep into the lore of the original film and the beloved ’90s Adrian Paul TV series, setting it up as a prequel-esque reimagining.

The movie “Highlander” is created by Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt of UA, Neal H. Moritz, and Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment. Patrick Wachsberger takes on an executive producer role. Universal Pictures (UA) obtained complete rights to the franchise from Lionsgate, with intentions to possibly create a new series alongside the film.

While an official release date hasn’t been set yet, it’s anticipated that production will kick off in September. The filming will take place in various locations such as London, Scotland, and Hong Kong. It’s also known that Henry Cavill has mentioned he’ll be quite occupied.
