Dave Bautista Crashes Into ‘Road House’ Sequel, Joining Jake Gyllenhaal

As reported by Nexus Point News, it’s confirmed that Dave Bautista will be part of the cast for the forthcoming “Road House” sequel.

The upcoming action movie, modeled after the 2024 remake featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, is being produced at Amazon MGM Studios right now. Although specifics about Bautista’s character are yet to be revealed, insiders suggest he will portray a retired fighter, much like Gyllenhaal’s character Dalton. This new film will primarily feature a fresh cast, implying that most of the original characters won’t make a comeback.

By March 2024, Jake Gyllenhaal had expressed his enthusiasm for a sequel, and by May, the project was underway with him as the main character. Amazon MGM Studio’s head, Jennifer Salke, confirmed that production on the film is progressing. In April 2025, director Guy Ritchie became involved in discussions about the project and later officially joined as the director. The script is being penned by Will Beall, famous for his work on “Aquaman” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”.

In July 2025, there was a shift as Guy Ritchie stepped down from the film project. Subsequently, Ilya Naishuller has been in negotiations to step into the director’s role. Although the studio hasn’t confirmed this change yet, sources claim that the handover is happening behind the scenes.

Initially, the first revamped version of “Road House” introduced Gyllenhaal as the latest Dalton character, but the response was divided among critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it earned a 60% positive rating from 205 reviews, with an average score of 5.6 out of 10.

The new version of Road House, as per critics’ consensus, retains the essence of the original with its focus on action that leans more towards campiness rather than a compelling storyline. On Metacritic, the film has received a score of 57 out of 100 from 46 reviews, suggesting generally “mixed or average” responses.

Despite some varying opinions, the film attracted viewers, and its sequel is poised to capitalize on this popularity with new characters and heightened action. With Bautista joining the cast and Gyllenhaal reprising his role, fans are in for another exhilarating journey – although an official release date has yet to be announced.
