Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 patch notes: Shock ‘N Awesome begins

It’s been quite some time since we last experienced the thrill of a new Fortnite season, but now, it’s arrived! Chapter 6 Season 4, also known as “Fortnite Shock ‘N Awesome,” has finally made its way here. In an unexpected twist, this season is centered around a war against a horde of colossal bugs. Fans of the EDF (Earth Defense Force) games might find this season particularly appealing, as the narrative arc focuses on combating an insectoid threat.

In this new season, we will explain all the freshly introduced features so that you can enter the upcoming battle well-informed about what lies ahead.

New Battle Pass

Map changes

In the heart of the map lies territory now controlled by insects, and four fresh locations have appeared that require exploration. However, be prepared as these areas will likely contain aggressive insects for you to eliminate.

1. The Hive, as the name suggests, serves as the primary hub of bug activity. Proceed with caution when approaching it.

2. Swarmy Stash is a trove of valuable items, but unfortunately, it has been taken over by the enemy.

3. Ranger’s Ruin, much like its name, has fallen into disarray due to the bugs. The once standing building now boasts a newly built hive in its place.

Outside the bug’s domain lies the headquarters of the O.X.R., an organization spearheading the fightback against these pests.

O.X.R. ranks and loot drops

In the upcoming season, similar to the previous one, you’ll advance in rank as you play and defeat opponents, collect loot, or survive storm phases. Your rank will increase each time you accomplish these tasks. Unlike last season, where you had to visit the Supernova Academy to receive your rewards, this season, every time you advance in rank, you’ll get a reward drop that becomes more valuable the higher your rank climbs.

In addition, achieving Rank A grants you access to hidden weapon caches known as O.X.R. Bunkers scattered across the map, each harboring distinctive firearms.

New weapons

Progress has been made with the O.X.R., as some of the bugs’ weaponry has been incorporated into our own arsenal. Starting from the onset of the season, players can discover the Bug Blaster, a plasma weapon that builds up charge for strong bursts. Additionally, later in the game, the Roly Poly will be introduced, enabling players to roll up inside a bug’s body and swiftly navigate across the map.

On top of that, the following guns have been added:

  • Leadsplitter 3000 Minigun
  • Sweeper Shotgun
  • O.X.R. Rifle
  • Wrecker Revolver
  • Swarmstrike Rocket Launcher

The Power Rangers are also joining the fun, as the Blade Blaster is set to debut later this season.

Plus, the O.X.R. Bunkers contain a selection of exotic weapons that all have unique effects:

  • Eradicator O.X.R. Rifle – After successfully hitting an enemy, its damage increases with subsequent successful hits.
  • Double Trouble – Two shotguns that can be double-pumped.
  • Shock n’ Slow Shockwave Launcher – Fires Shockwave Grenades that cause a slowdown effect mid-air to both enemies and allies.
  • Marksman Wrecker Revolver – Higher hip fire rate and headshot multiplier.
  • Exotic Slap Berry Fizz – Flowberry Fizz that also grants Slap.

Choppas return

After a significant break, helicopters are making their comeback in Fortnite, with the introduction of the Hammerhead Choppa vehicle this season. This advanced chopper has the ability to remain airborne for some time without control, providing players a chance to move to the passenger seat and fire their weapons at unsuspecting opponents below.

New Boons

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that some sweet rewards, known as Boons, have hung around since they were introduced last season. Among these are the ranked Boons that drop from the Drop Pods you earn when you level up your O.X.R. rank. The rest of them can be discovered either in O.X.R. Chests or hidden within Hive Sacs.

  • Agile Aiming Boon – While aiming down sights, your recoil and spread will be reduced, and you’ll maintain more of your movement speed.
  • Extended Magazine Boon – Increases clip size for all your weapons.
  • Storm Forecast Boon – The next Storm circle is always revealed to you.

And here’s all the different effects for the Super Soldier Ranked Boon:

  • Rank B – Reduces energy consumption when sprinting.
  • Rank A – All previous boons + Increases reload speed.
  • Rank S – All previous boons + Reduces weapon recoil and spread.
  • Rank S+ – All previous boons + Increases sprint speed and gives unlimited energy.
