- 2011 Ferrari LaFerrari Prototype M4 to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s at Monterey Car Week, estimated to be worth USD 1.2m
- Early development mule for the LaFerrari, built on a modified 458 Italia chassis with a hybrid V-12 powertrain
- Not road-legal but a rare collector’s piece showcasing Ferrari’s hybrid hypercar evolution
During Monterey Car Week, RM Sotheby’s is presenting an exceptional slice of Ferrari’s innovation past: the 2011 Ferrari LaFerrari Prototype M4, estimated to sell between $900,000 and $1,200,000 USD. Known internally as “F150 Muletto M4,” this initial test vehicle played a significant role in the real-world testing stage of the hybrid LaFerrari, sporting a hybrid V-12 engine installed on a substantially revised 458 Italia frame.
This vehicle may look like a conventional 458, complete with black leather seats, tan carpets, and a prominent white tachometer at 9,000 rpm. However, its dashboard switch and high-voltage warning label indicate it serves an experimental role. Externally, distinctive features such as exposed rivets, large front air intakes, mismatched brakes, side-mounted powertrain access hatches, and high-rise air intakes mark it as a prototype. Despite not being road or track-ready yet, this development car is a significant milestone in Ferrari’s transition towards hybrid hypercars and could become an intriguing addition to any Ferrari collector’s inventory. The bidding for this unique piece will commence on August 15 as part of RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
