Ed Sheeran Takes Jab at ‘Professional Singers’ For Lip-Syncing Their Live Performances: ‘They Don’t Admit it Though’

Ed Sheeran, while on his Mathetics tour, has revealed some behind-the-scenes truths about fellow professional singers. He disclosed that quite a few artists resort to lip-syncing during their live shows, although they usually keep this a private matter in public.

In a recent YouTube video by Beta Squad, Ed Sheeran was challenged to identify the voices of popular musicians in the music scene.

One competitor in the video confided in the famous Sapphire singer that she might mouth the words instead of singing live at performances, if her vocals weren’t strong enough. To this, the artist replied, “I’m not sure a skilled vocalist would openly acknowledge lip-syncing.

After hearing Ed Sheeran’s reply, one contestant inquired, “But isn’t that something many established artists often do?” To which, the singer of ‘Shape of You’ confessed, “Yes, but they usually don’t acknowledge it.

Additionally, the artist was questioned whether he had ever resorted to lip-syncing during performances. In response, Sheeran humorously stated that “I can’t pull off lip-syncing since I’m the one with a loop pedal and a guitar.” The multiple Grammy winner also mentioned, “I wouldn’t call off a show due to my voice. I’d persevere through it, even if my voice was a bit hoarse.

The performer went on to elaborate, “It seems to me that if you’re a skilled vocalist, even when you act as a mime-since there are indeed proficient vocalists who mime, but they’d never confess to it.

Currently, Ed Sheeran is touring Europe, a journey that started in 2022. Coming up, the Shape of You singer is set to perform at Middenvijver Park in Antwerp, Belgium on the 7th of August.

In terms of his career, Ed Sheeran is planning to unveil his eighth studio album titled “Play”. The songs from this album are scheduled for release on September 12.
