WASTED by Potato Head Taps Max Lamb For Its First Homeware Collection

Summary

  • Co-designed with Max Lamb, WASTED by Potato Head launches Collection 001
  • The collection centers on a “Good Times, Do Good” ethos with experimental design and process-driven homeware made by local artisans in Bali

Potato Head’s creation, WASTED, has introduced Collection 001 – a brand-new homeware line developed in collaboration with British designer Max Lamb. This inaugural collection reimagines waste as functional art, combining Potato Head’s “Good Times, Do Good” philosophy with Lamb’s innovative, process-focused design style. Crafted by skilled Balinese artisans, the collection honors Indonesia’s rich craft tradition and contributes to the island’s impressive 99.5% landfill diversion goal.

This range encompasses eight diverse material sources, including recycled HDPE plastics, dyes derived from composted plants, old hotel linens, hand-blown glass, used cooking oils, salvaged ceramics, Styrofoam-oyster shell mixtures, and Balinese bamboo weaving. By employing methods like marigold and indigo dyeing, ceramic glazing, plastic molding, traditional weaving, and glassblowing, the collection showcases the natural textures and hues of repurposed materials. The end product is a collection of useful yet poetic items such as marbled plastic seats, reusable candles, bamboo loungers, handcrafted ceramic containers, all demonstrating waste as a creative asset.

Based on decades of in-house study and the Community Waste Project spanning the entire island, Collection 001 showcases a closed-loop design concept that revamps the worth and origin of materials. Each unique piece emphasizes locality, methodology, and human artistry. As Max Lamb points out, designers carry a duty to validate each product we introduce to our world. By means of WASTED’s adaptable, location-specific model, Potato Head presents a workable guide for circular innovation and mindful existence.

On August 4th, 8 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or 4 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), Collection 001 will go live online. From August 8th, it will also be available in selected physical stores.
