2008’s film “Taken” introduced Liam Neeson‘s character, Bryan Mills, a former CIA agent whose daughter gets kidnapped in Paris. This movie marked a pivotal point in Neeson’s career as it solidified his image as an action hero and provided us with numerous memorable lines that have become popular in internet culture.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’d say that the climactic phone call sequence is undeniably the most gripping moment. In a heart-stopping turn of events, the antagonists abduct my child, forcing me into a chilling conversation over the phone. With unwavering composure, I deliver a powerful monologue that leaves an indelible mark on everyone involved.
You’re unknown to me, and your intentions are unclear. If you’re after a ransom, let me make this clear – I don’t have any money. However, what I do possess are unique abilities that I’ve honed over many years, abilities that could cause you immense trouble. If you release my daughter now, that will be the end of it. I won’t seek you out or chase after you. But if you don’t, I promise you, I will track you down, find you, and take action against you.
1) The line has become iconic in contemporary action films due to its cool delivery, and interestingly enough, Neeson himself found humor in it outside of his acting roles. During a recent interview with the New York Times, Neeson confessed that he initially felt awkward about the movie, but later chose to embrace it playfully.
He admitted, “I felt a little awkward,” but he quickly added, “Let me clarify that I truly enjoyed the script. However, it’s hard to count the number of times I’ve recorded that ‘Taken’ speech as voicemails for my sons’ friends.
The film “Taken” grossed a staggering $226.8 million globally, with $145 million earned in North America and $81.8 million from international markets. This impressive figure was achieved on a relatively small production budget of just $25 million.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie garnered a 60% positive response from 178 reviews and an average score of 5.8 out of 10. In simpler terms, many people liked it but not everyone did. The general consensus was that the film is entertaining with some great action sequences, but lacks depth and intellectual stimulation. On Metacritic, it received a score of 50 out of 100 from 32 critics, suggesting a mix of positive and negative reviews.
Regardless of mixed reviews, the movie’s strong earnings at the box office paved the way for an entire franchise, consisting of two follow-ups on the big screen and a spin-off television show.
Now, Liam Neeson is currently marketing his newest film, a reboot of the classic comedy, “The Naked Gun“. This movie was directed by Akiva Schaffer, who collaborated with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand on its screenplay. As a continuation honoring the legacy, it serves as a follow-up to “Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult” (1994), making it the fourth film in the “Naked Gun” series.
This tale centers around the son of the iconic Lt. Frank Drebin, who strives to honor his father’s achievements while working against the clock to prevent Police Squad from being closed down. The movie features Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston in leading roles.
On July 28, 2025, The Naked Gun held its global debut at the SVA Theater in Manhattan. Subsequently, it hit the screens of cinemas across the United States and UK on August 1, 2025, under the distribution of Paramount Pictures. The movie received favorable responses from critics.
