As a fellow cinema enthusiast who’s also got an eye for gaming devices, I must share some disappointing news: If you were planning to grab a Nintendo Switch soon, it looks like your savings might need a bit more time to grow. The unfortunate truth is that the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products will now cost a little more than before.
The price adjustment affects not just the first-generation Nintendo Switch, but also the Switch OLED, Switch Lite, and some additional accessories. According to Nintendo, this increase in the Switch’s price is due to market conditions, which essentially means the Trump tariffs. These changes will take effect starting on Sunday, August 3, with Canadian price increases having already gone into effect.
It appears that Nintendo hasn’t publicly announced new prices for their Switch models following the price increase, but gamers have found out about the changes thanks to updated listings on Target’s website. The user @Wario64 discovered these changes. The original Switch is now $40 more expensive, priced at $339.99. The Switch OLED has increased by $50 and costs $399.99. Additionally, the Switch Lite will be $30 more, with a new price of $299.99. It’s worth noting that Nintendo is also raising the prices of some Switch 2 accessories, but the prices of the consoles themselves, as well as games for the Switch and Switch 2, remain unchanged—for now.
Price adjustments for Nintendo Switch consoles have now been implemented at Target:
– The price of the OLED model has risen to $399.99 (previously $350)
– The non-OLED model’s price is now $339.99 (previously $300)
– The Switch Lite’s price has been increased to $229.99 (previously $200)– The Nintendo Switch OLED model costs $10 more, now at $399.99
– The regular Nintendo Switch is $40 more, now priced at $339.99
– The Nintendo Switch Lite has a price bump of $29.99, now selling for $229.99— Wario64 (@Wario64) August 1, 2025
According to the official Nintendo website, the prices for Nintendo Switch Online memberships will stay the same for now, offering some respite to gamers who might be facing financial strain soon. However, it’s important to note that this could potentially change in the near future, as hinted by the announcement which states, “Be aware that price changes may occur in the future.” Therefore, Nintendo enthusiasts should prepare for possible further price increases following the initial adjustments in the cost of Nintendo Switch. These are the times we’re currently navigating through. (Winks and gives a thumbs up like Happy Mario Face emoji.)
