It’s a common occurrence that people joke about the Avatar franchise by saying things like “No one can recall any of the characters” and “When was the last time you had a discussion about Avatar?” However, there are some individuals who know every Na’vi character by name and love discussing these movies – those people are accountants. Interestingly enough, Pandora, the fictional world in Avatar, is also a metaphor for a real-life money maker. The films have drawn massive global audiences whenever a new film is released in theaters. So although people may find humor in it, don’t be surprised if James Cameron’s vision of an Avatar spinoff comes to fruition. The director is aiming to create an animated Avatar anthology series.
Cameron discussed ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ with Empire magazine ahead of their issue focusing on the franchise’s third movie. However, during the interview, he delved into an idea he has for other tales from Pandora, even mentioning potential plans for an animated series. This is what he shared with Empire about his talks with Disney regarding the future of Pandora.
I proposed, “Here’s an idea: let’s create an animated series that’s set in the same universe as ‘Avatar,’ but with stories that deviate from what you’d typically expect. This project could potentially include an animated feature as well. It could be a streamed movie or a theatrical release.

The creation of an Avatar animated series or movie isn’t too far-fetched, considering it already has a video game and a theme park area. This approach could offer the most intriguing perspective on the world of Pandora and its Na’vi inhabitants. A cartoon series set in Pandora might even become one of the visually stunning productions ever made.
The event might not occur anytime soon, or even at all. Cameron further clarified that they haven’t delved deeply into the idea yet. He explained, “We are still collecting our narratives and such. I need to find those independent filmmakers and animators who are passionate about it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some folks crack a joke about an animated anthology series inspired by “Avatar.” However, the folks crunching numbers at Disney’s accounting department likely won’t find it amusing.
