At San Diego Comic-Con, James Gunn showcased the trailer for Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” with John Cena in full costume as the host. The unveiling included a fresh opening theme – the late Ozzy Osbourne’s “Road to Nowhere” – serving as a touching tribute following Osbourne’s recent demise. Gunn expressed his feelings about this selection and praised the season’s music collection, which he considers his favorite thus far, boasting of more contemporary tracks from the last decade or so.
Gunn on the New Season’s Theme and Story
During the discussion, Gunn emphasized that Season 2 delves further into Chris Smith’s personal turmoil following his rejection by society. He also mentioned that the series continues after the appearance of Superman (with Cena making a cameo), and includes aspects related to multiple universes, appearances from characters within the DC Universe, and Peacemaker confronting Rick Flag Sr., portrayed by Frank Grillo, who reappears from Creature Commandos and Superman.
Additionally, Gunn confirmed that almost all of Season 1 is still valid within the updated DC Universe, except for the brief appearance of the Justice League. This matter will be handled in Season 2.
Comic‑Con Highlights: Cast Antics and Dance Credits
At the panel, the conversation centered around the mesmerizing title sequence, and boy, was it a hot topic! Gunn unveiled an exciting update – the fresh soundtrack would now resonate with the electrifying beats of “Oh Lord” by Foxy Shazam, whom he passionately dubs as the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll champions of our world. The credits continue to captivate us with a choreographed dance routine involving the talented cast members. While modest souls like Frank Grillo and Tim Meadows preferred to observe from the sidelines, Gunn couldn’t help but gloat about their impressive skills. In an act of pure cinema admiration, Gunn crowned Jennifer Holland and Freddie Stroma as the undisputed dance kings (and queens) of our set.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I was fortunate enough to catch an intimate glimpse into the making of the film. In one thrilling scene, Jennifer Holland’s character, Harcourt, found herself in a heated altercation with rowdy bar patrons. At one point, she took a particularly brutal kick that left her wincing in pain. Another intriguing moment was when Tim Meadows’ character voiced his unique complaint about “bird blindness” as he kept watch over Chris Cena alongside Steve Agee and Danielle Brooks. What a treat it was to get this exclusive sneak peek!
Trailer Highlights: Parallel Worlds and Returning Threats
The sneak peek hints at a significant story change: Character Chris Smith ventures into an alternative dimension through the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, discovering a universe where he’s renowned as a hero. In this realm, he’s romantically involved with Emilia Harcourt. This alternate Chris stands in stark contrast to his counterpart who faces hardships in his original world.
Fresh dangers are on the horizon. Rick Flag Senior (Frank Grillo) pursues Peacemaker due to the death of his son. It’s possible that Peacemaker could encounter his counterpart from an alternate universe, while old friends such as Langston Fleury and Judomaster reappear to aid the 11th Street Kids amidst the turmoil that ensues.
