- The 14-track project includes lead single “1995”
In May of 2020, the release of album Alfredo by Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist resonated deeply within the music community, converting many casual listeners into dedicated hip-hop enthusiasts for months, if not years. Essentially, this project established a modern benchmark for what constitutes a “successful” collaboration between a rap artist and a producer.
Given the significant impression the album made, the duo understood they couldn’t hastily produce Alfredo 2. Despite their unwavering focus, as was true five years ago, it’s evident that Gibbs and Alc prepared Alfredo 2 with great care. They dedicated substantial time to the multi-faceted follow-up project, ensuring it retained the same zest, taste, and collaborative flair as the initial release.
This album, titled “Alfredo 2,” launches with the opening track “1995” as its lead single. It also includes collaborations such as Anderson .Paak on the song “Ensalada,” Larry June on “Feeling,” and JID on “Gold Feet.

While “Alfredo 2” is only one part of the three-course collection, it was preceded by its short film companion, a Tokyo crime saga directed by Nick Walker. After the release of this film, a series of limited-edition merchandise capsules were introduced to coincide with the long-awaited album.
In a somewhat unexpected twist, the duo projects by Gibbs and Alc this year, titled “Alfredo” and “Alfredo 2”, were initially planned to be served in reverse order. “Alfredo” was meant to be the appetizer, while “Alfredo 2” was intended as the main course. Both releases are deeply moving and groundbreaking in the hip hop genre, but if we had to compare, “Alfredo” clearly outshines its sequel. However, “Alfredo 2” is equally impressive, introspective, and enticing, with similar flavors to its predecessor.
