On July 18, Myke Towers, a Puerto Rican artist, released his ninth studio album titled “Island Boyz.” This album is a testament to the artist’s Caribbean heritage, exploring various rhythms such as reggaetón, dancehall, dembow, Latin R&B, and afrobeats across its 23 tracks. The album is enlivened by the energetic contributions of collaborators like Quevedo, De La Ghetto, Gabito Ballesteros, Manuel Turizo, and others. “Island Boyz” celebrates the islands that have influenced the diverse and culturally rich landscape of modern Latin music.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but express my excitement for the upcoming sequel to “Lyke Miike,” titled “Island Boyz.” This album promises a diverse urban soundtrack that seamlessly blends Latin rhythms, showcasing the rapper-singer’s knack for creating catchy beats and penning heartfelt lyrics.
The journey begins with the opening track, “La Despedida,” featuring Colombian rapper and producer DFZM. This collaboration underscores the artist’s growth as a lyricist and his passion for musical experimentation.
“Surferita,” an upbeat, summery anthem that merges lively ska rhythms with Mexican tuba, is another standout track. Puerto Rican singer iZaak adds his unique touch to this energetic tune.
The album’s lead single, “Tengo Celos,” was released alongside a music video directed by Daniel Eguren. Other radio-friendly tracks include the introspective “Expectativas” featuring collaborator Quevedo, a track that has been consistently topping Spanish radio charts.
Once again, I found myself standing at the 2025 All-Star Celebrity Softball Game in Atlanta’s Truist Park. For a second straight year, Towers graced us with their presence, hinting at their upcoming album and adding an extra buzz to the official MLB All-Star Weekend. The crowd was in for a treat as we enjoyed live performances by the artist themselves, along with Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko, Eladio Carrión, Jordan Chiles, and Wisin. As a gamer, it was another unforgettable experience where music and sports collided.
