THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Mid-Credits Scene Explained

Title “The Fantastic Four: Initial Strides” has been released and it’s been quite some time since we’ve had a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film as self-reliant as “Captain America: The First Avenger” did 14 years ago. However, that doesn’t mean it lacks hints about what’s to come. Following the usual pattern of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this movie includes both a mid-credit scene and a post-credit scene. The initial one lays the groundwork for the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” set for release in December 2026. The second is merely a fun addition.

We’re going to breakdown both of them for you below! Beware spoilers.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Mid-Credits Scene

The mid-credit scene of “First Steps” leaps forward four years, where we find Sue (played by Vanessa Kirby) reading to her now preschooler, Franklin. However, Franklin isn’t keen on the advanced physics book H.E.R.B.I.E. suggests; instead, he requests a different book. Upon finding an age-appropriate storybook, Sue spins around, only to be met with a chilling sight. An intruder has breached the Baxter Building and is kneeling beside Franklin, clad in a green cape and hood, revealing his true identity hidden beneath a metal mask, visible only to Franklin.

We then read “The Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday.”

In simpler terms, we’re not sure if the character we see at the end of the credits is the same Dr. Doom as in our universe or from another one. It could be Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Dr. Doom or a different one. Whether this scene will impact the next movie or it’s just a distraction isn’t clear, especially since director Matt Shakman stated he didn’t film any scenes with Doom during the production of “Doomsday.

It’s highly probable that Franklin Richards will serve a crucial role, similar to the MacGuffin, across the incursion events depicted in both “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” For more details on Franklin and his rich comic book background, you can explore this resource.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Post-Credits Scene

This particular segment is quite enjoyable. It features the start sequence from the fictional Fantastic Four animated series within the storyline, where the Thing exclaims “It’s clobberin’ time!”. The animation style imitates the original 20-episode 1967 series created by Hanna-Barbera. The cartoon depicts animated versions of the FF villains mentioned earlier in the film, making it quite entertaining.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in theaters now.
