The chilling movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” made a comeback in cinemas, rejuvenating the series and inviting horror enthusiasts once more to Southport for another round of gruesome slayings. Similar to the original horror classic, this sequel-remake features a group of young adults embroiled in trouble. After they unintentionally cause an accident that results in someone’s death, a mysterious figure in a fisherman’s coat and a hook starts racking up victims in this coastal town. In “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, Julie James and Ray Bronson reappear, while the film pays tribute to its predecessors with two notable appearances by cherished characters from past films.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Returns as Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
Although Sarah Michelle Gellar initially stated that she wouldn’t reprise her role due to the death of Helen Shivers in the first film, it seems that she is indeed part of I Know What You Did Last Summer. In the original movie, Helen, who was the Croaker Queen and a close friend of Julie’s, met her untimely end during a Fourth of July parade after a suspenseful and extended chase scene. Much like Skeet Ulrich’s character Billy Loomis in Scream V and Scream VI, Helen reappears posthumously as a haunting specter.
In a turn of events, Danica – a once royal and affluent peer, now investigating the murders from 1997 – develops curiosity regarding Helen’s life and demise. One evening, Danica dozes off at the police station, only to be plagued by a chilling nightmare about Helen Shivers. In this dream, the late queen stands menacingly over Danica’s fiancé’s lifeless body, mocking her with accusations that his death, among others, is her responsibility. The nightmare concludes as blood trickles from Helen’s crown and she issues a grim prophecy about Danica’s impending fate. As the dream unfolds, Helen’s visage gradually decays, leaving Danica startled upon waking at the police station.
Brandy Cameos as Karla Wilson in I Know What You Did Last Summer’s Mid-Credits Scene
As a devoted film fan, I had no doubt in my mind that Karla would reconnect with Julie and Ray in the second installment of our beloved horror series. In this sequel, she transforms into Julie’s closest companion and flatmate, who luckily won a radio contest for a tropical retreat. Upon arrival, it swiftly became clear that this idyllic getaway was a trap set by Ben Willis’ offspring to eliminate us all.
Karla miraculously made it through the brutal ambush but was tragically left behind when Julie and Ray were rescued in a helicopter. Incredibly, they didn’t even bother to check if she had survived her wounds. Since then, we’ve speculated that Karla managed to pick up the pieces of her life and steer clear of Julie and Ray.
Unfortunately, despite plans for a reunion among friends, it never came to pass. It was later revealed that Ray orchestrated these heinous acts, manipulating his bar manager Stevie into committing crimes following the death of their mutual friend Sam in an accident. As the credits rolled, we saw Karla comfortably at home with her spouse, tuned into the news. When she learned that Ray had perished and Julie had survived an attack, a knock on the door startled her. It was none other than Julie, who sought out Karla. The two former college friends shared a warm embrace before Julie showed Karla a photo of them together, their faces obscured. A cryptic message on the back read “It Isn’t Over.” Empowered by this revelation, Karla was eager to join forces with Julie in hunting down the killer and standing up against them together.
Will Brandy Portray Karla Again for Another I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel?
It appears another installment of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is indeed happening, featuring Karla and Julie this time! Let’s hope the series doesn’t bring Brandy back only to eliminate Karla. Since we know Stevie survived the previous killings, it seems strange that she would target Julie and Karla. Could it be that she’s seeking revenge for Ray’s death? If so, what connection does Karla have to this? She had no part in the events that transpired. It seems Karla might be unintentionally caught up in Stevie’s quest for vengeance.
It seems there could be another individual involved in the events of “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” who may wish to harm both characters – possibly inspired by Stevie and Ray’s recent murder spree. Time will tell if this is indeed the case. For now, we anxiously await news on whether a sequel is actually planned.
