Kevin Feige Opens Up About 7-Year MCU Plan, Reveals Future of Robert Downey Jr’s Dr Doom and Mahershala Ali’s Blade

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has revealed that they have a fresh seven-year plan mapped out for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), continuing until 2032. At a press gathering in Burbank, California, he offered unique glimpses into what lies ahead for fans, including details on the eagerly awaited revamp of Fantastic Four, the debut of Doctor Doom, and progress reports on the postponed Blade film.

As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t contain my excitement when I say that, according to Feige, we’re looking at a seven-year journey that stretches all the way to 2032! This new roadmap proves that despite some recent shifts in tone, stars, and storytelling, Marvel is as committed as ever to their long-term vision. Although the specific titles are still under lock and key, it’s clear that they’re focusing on introducing crucial characters and steering the narrative in fresh directions.

Fantastic Four is back under Marvel’s control

Among the highly awaited productions on the horizon, one noteworthy project is the revamp of Fantastic Four. Unlike its predecessors, this latest movie will be exclusively overseen by Marvel Studios and Feige, providing direct guidance.

Feige explained, “The reason for focusing on Fantastic Four is because they are Marvel’s original family. They have a rich history that positions them as A-list characters. Previously, they hadn’t appeared in the Infinity Saga because every crossover film we produced featured them as major players in the comics, but we couldn’t incorporate them at that time.

Doctor Doom set to take center stage

As the Fantastic Four make their comeback, Marvel is also resurrecting one of its longstanding, emblematic antagonists – Doctor Doom. According to Feige, there was no other character fitting for this role given his extensive history in the comics spanning decades, and that’s indeed Doctor Doom.

Discussions about Doctor Doom had already started before the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, signifying a change in focus from Kang as the primary antagonist.

Feige revealed that discussions about Doctor Doom were underway even prior to the formal shift in focus from Kang. In fact, he had already begun brainstorming the concept with Robert well before the release of Ant-Man 3.

Here’s what Kevin Feige said about Blade

Feige also discussed the persistent hold-ups concerning the Blade movie, featuring the vampire-slaying superhero played by Mahershala Ali. Although it has been taken off the scheduled release dates, the project is still being actively worked on.

In a recent statement, Feige explained that instead of setting the story in periods such as the 1930s, we’ve chosen to focus on contemporary times. The adjustments, as he noted, were aimed at maintaining the highest quality in the narrative and producing the optimal version of the movie.

Feige explained that they weren’t keen on having Mahershala Ali wear a leather costume and take on the role of a vampire slayer. He mentioned that while a solid script can be refined during filming, the team wasn’t convinced they could elevate Blade’s story to their desired level. Moreover, he stated that they wanted to avoid disappointing Mahershala Ali or themselves in the process.
