Last week ended with significant growth for Archer Aviation (ACHR) stocks. By the end of Friday’s trading, their electric-vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) company’s share price had risen by 26.5% compared to the previous week’s market close.
As I stand by, my eyes follow Archer Aviation soaring aloft, propelled not only by its own engines but also by the news that its rival, Joby Aviation, is expanding its manufacturing processes. Moreover, the buzz in the air seems to be about more than just aviation; it’s the anticipation of drones making waves in the defense sector that’s causing a stir, giving Archer stock an additional lift.
Archer stock soars on Joby news and drone bets
On the 15th of July, Joby Aviation revealed a press statement disclosing that they had increased their vehicle production capability twice at their manufacturing facility in Marina, California. Additionally, the company unveiled plans to enhance component manufacturing and testing operations at their refurbished plant in Dayton, Ohio.
Despite being rivals, Archer Aviation and Joby Aviation, both electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) companies, are currently operating in an immature market. This market has the potential to accommodate several successful players. In fact, Joby’s advancements seem to be a positive sign for Archer’s future prospects as well.
Besides the news about Joby, Archer’s stock price increased because investors think companies with potential to profit from strengthened U.S. defense drone capabilities are promising. Despite some ups and downs throughout the year, Archer Aviation stock has risen by 36% in 2021 trading. With its recent market valuation growth, Archer now has an estimated market value of approximately $7.3 billion.
What’s next for Archer Aviation?
As an onlooker, it appears that Joby is ramping up its production activities considerably, possibly hinting at imminent approval to operate in crucial markets. If Joby manages to secure regulatory clearance, Archer Aviation might also find itself poised for similar approvals to launch commercial operations for their Midnight model. However, the anticipated start of commercial air-taxi operations this year could be secondary to news surrounding eVTOLs and defensive drones within the defense industry, which may have a more immediate impact on Archer’s stock value in the near future.
