As a movie enthusiast, I’ve got to say that the Jurassic World trilogy breathed new life into the big screen with a captivating blend of nostalgia and heart-pounding excitement. The series kicks off with the reopening of a theme park and culminates in dinosaurs freely roaming our contemporary world. These films sought to recapture the enchantment of the original Jurassic Park while injecting innovative concepts into the storyline.
Despite finding the action and special effects captivating, there were certain instances in the Jurassic World films that left me perplexed. From doubtful scientific explanations to confounding character decisions, here’s a rundown of 10 plot points in the Jurassic World trilogy that seemed illogical.
10. Gyrospheres Surviving Dinosaur Attacks in ‘Jurassic World’ (2015)
In the movie ‘Jurassic World’, the gyrospheres are transparent orbs where visitors can roam amongst dinosaurs. They’re quite intriguing yet appear extremely risky. During the Indominus rex rampage, these spheres miraculously endure its attacks and bites, ensuring the safety of Zach and Gray.
It seems implausible that this durability is true. A formidable beast with crushing jaws should easily break even reinforced glass. The notion that a theme park would put guests in such flimsy vehicles, especially close to carnivores, strains credibility and overlooks fundamental safety principles.
9. Dinosaur Survival on Isla Nublar in ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ (2018)
In ‘Fallen Kingdom’, dinosaurs are depicted as still existing on Isla Nublar, even with the danger of a volcanic eruption looming. However, it’s important to note that the island was already facing challenges in supporting these creatures, as shown in ‘Jurassic World’, when it was left abandoned and lacking resources.
How do such gigantic beasts manage to secure sufficient food and water resources? It’s surprising that the deterioration of the ecosystem didn’t lead to the extinction of numerous species, particularly large predators. The movie seems to skim over this aspect, creating an impression of their survival as a convenient precursor for the rescue narrative.
8. Owen’s Raptor Training in ‘Jurassic World’ (2015)
In the movie ‘Jurassic World’, Owen Grady manages to train velociraptors, treating them much like trusted canine companions. Through the use of hand gestures, he gives commands to Blue and her group, an achievement that seems extraordinary given their status as fierce carnivores.
In reality, velociraptors are clever and wild creatures that are difficult to tame, even after extensive training. Their innate instincts usually take over any bond they might form, which makes the portrayal of control in the movie seem unrealistic and more akin to fantasy rather than science.
7. The Indoraptor’s Convenient Abilities in ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ (2018)
In the film ‘Fallen Kingdom’, the creature known as the Indoraptor is a dinosaur hybrid that appears to possess extraordinary abilities reminiscent of supernatural entities. It has the uncanny ability to pursue humans, manipulate doors, and even feign unconsciousness in order to deceive its captors – a feat that seems more fitting for scenes in a horror movie.
Such a degree of intelligence and flexibility surpasses what could be reasonably attained through genetic manipulation. It seems as though the creators endowed it with abilities that matched the story’s requirements, disregarding biological constraints, resulting in a character reminiscent of an over-the-top, caricatured antagonist from a comic book or cartoon.
6. Claire’s High Heels in ‘Jurassic World’ (2015)
In the movie ‘Jurassic World’, Claire Dearing consistently dashes through jungles at a speed that outpaces dinosaurs, all while wearing high heels. Remarkably, she doesn’t change to more practical footwear, whether it’s escaping from a T-rex or maneuvering slippery, muddy grounds.
In my film connoisseur perspective, this scene seems to defy the laws of physics. It’s hard for me to believe anyone could dance so gracefully in heels without stumbling or losing pace. This seemingly unnecessary detail is quite distracting, taking us away from the heart-pounding action, prioritizing style over logical common sense in a matter of life and death.
5. Maisie’s Origin Story in ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ (2018)
In ‘Fallen Kingdom’, it’s unveiled that Maisie Lockwood is genetically engineered, being a human clone, a product of her grandfather’s use of dinosaur cloning technology. This unexpected revelation triggers a barrage of ethical and scientific dilemmas the movie fails to explore.
What methods were used to master the art of human cloning, and why was this discovery concealed? The narrative casually mentions it as a trivial point, seemingly skimming over the profound repercussions it holds. It appears that the authors have hastily included this element to give depth without thoroughly addressing the ‘how’ and ‘why’.
4. Dinosaurs Reaching the Mainland in ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ (2022)
In ‘Dominion’, following their escape in ‘Fallen Kingdom’, dinosaurs began appearing all over the globe. They seemed to pop up everywhere, from dense woodlands to bustling urban areas, with few details provided as to how they reproduced or adjusted to these new environments at such a rapid pace.
It seems unlikely that such swift worldwide domination could occur. In reality, dinosaurs might have encountered difficulties such as changes in climate, food shortages, and interference from humans. However, the film bypasses these complexities, portraying a universe where dinosaurs seamlessly coexist with minimal disruption or conflict.
3. The Biosyn Sanctuary’s Purpose in ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ (2022)
In the fictional world of ‘Dominion’, Biosyn’s dinosaur preserve is supposedly dedicated to scientific research on dinosaurs for medical advancements. However, it’s suspected that this is merely a facade, concealing illegal breeding and genetic manipulation activities. The company’s intentions are questionable, and their scheme appears excessively complex.
What’s the point of putting yourself in danger with a place as open as this one? The movie doesn’t explain how Biosyn manages to blend its questionable objectives with its stated research, leaving it seeming more like a convenient plot tool instead of a realistic institution.
2. The T. rex’s Stealth in ‘Jurassic World’ (2015)
In ‘Jurassic World’, the colossal T-rex manages to approach unsuspecting characters stealthily due to its enormous size and weight. During the climactic showdown, it materializes unexpectedly to confront the Indominus rex, leaving everyone startled.
A being of such magnitude ought to produce sounds and cause vibrations, yet it moves stealthily without making a peep – this is quite unnatural according to physical laws. Such silence adds suspense to the scenes, but it seems the filmmakers intentionally disregarded typical dinosaur behaviors for dramatic effect, which can be an intriguing moment in the film but may leave viewers questioning their accuracy.
1. Dr. Wu’s Inconsistent Ethics in ‘Jurassic World’ Trilogy (2015-2022)
In the course of the movies ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Fallen Kingdom’, and ‘Dominion’, Dr. Henry Wu’s character transforms from a careful scientist to a rash geneticist who creates harmful hybrids, and later strives for redemption. The evolution of his moral compass appears to lack convincing justification, which gives the impression that his story arc is fragmented or inconsistent.
Why persists he in conducting questionable research, even though aware of its potential hazards? His inconsistent behavior seems more tailored for dramatic purposes than reflecting the struggles of a genuine scientist grappling with moral quandaries.
