Filming for Season 3 initiated as early as March 21, 2025, right at Leavesden Studios in Watford. It’s anticipated that this will carry on until October, meaning there’s still a considerable amount of time left before the project is finally wrapped up. A leak about the production has surfaced, but no official clips have been disclosed as yet, originating from someone with close ties to the team behind the scenes.

In January 2025, it was announced that James Norton had become part of the cast, taking on the role of Lord Ormund Hightower for HBO’s series. This character is significant within the storyline. As the Lord of the Hightower, Ormund commands his household during the Dance of the Dragons. Notably, he is also the nephew of Ser Otto Hightower, a well-known figure from earlier seasons as the Hand of the King. Ormund wields a formidable Valyrian steel sword named Vigilance, adding to his deadly potential in combat.

Ormund stands as a staunch ally of King Aegon II Targaryen, bolstering the “green” faction in their ongoing conflict. His forces boast one of the largest contingents, comprising countless knights, archers, and infantry soldiers. However, not every lord from the Reach region stands behind him.

Certain individuals, such as Sir Allan Beesbury and Lord Allan Tarly, engage in combat against Ormund’s troops, creating difficulties for him. Additionally, Lord Owen Costayne disrupts his supply routes. Due to these issues, Ormund elects to hold off on major actions until reinforcements arrive from King’s Landing.

Alongside James Norton, several other fresh faces will grace our screens this season. In March 2025, HBO announced the additions of Tommy Flanagan and Dan Fogler to the cast as Lord Roderick Dustin and Ser Torrhen Manderly respectively. A month later, Tom Cullen, Joplin Sibtain, and Barry Sloane were confirmed for their roles as Ser Luthor Largent, Ser Jon Roxton, and Ser Adrian Redfort.

To this point, HBO hasn’t revealed many details or clips, but a sneaked peek featuring Norton has sparked enthusiasm among fans. A set insider commented, “Fans are going to be thrilled with James’ portrayal. He seems perfectly suited for Westeros.

It’s currently unknown when House of The Dragon Season 3 will be released, as production is ongoing. However, given this pace, it’s likely that viewers won’t get to watch Matt Smith (Norton) and the rest of the cast back in action until around 2026.
