Trump Celebrates Colbert’s Firing, Predicts Kimmel’s Downfall: Late-Night TV Shaken

Donald Trump is expressing his delight over CBS’s move to end Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show,” as shared on Truth Social. Beyond expressing approval for this decision, he also voiced criticism towards other late-night hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon.

He expressed, ‘I’m thrilled that Colbert was let go. His skills were inferior to his ratings, and I’ve heard Jimmy Kimmel might be next. Frankly, he has less talent than Colbert! In my opinion, Greg Gutfeld outshines them all, including the individual who ruined the once esteemed Tonight Show on NBC.’

On Thursday, it was disclosed that CBS will terminate “The Late Show” due to financial constraints, despite Colbert’s ratings remaining robust. This unexpected decision has sparked speculation about whether this cancellation is linked to the proposed merger between Paramount Global (CBS’s parent company) and Skydance Media. The deal is yet to receive approval from the Trump administration.

Previously this year, a court case worth $16 million brought about by Donald Trump against CBS came to an end. Trump initiated the legal action due to perceived biased editing in a “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris. CBS had maintained that the lawsuit lacked any substantial grounds.

A number of Democratic politicians, among them Senator Adam Schiff, have raised doubts about whether political considerations influenced CBS’s choice in this matter. It is well-known that Colbert, for years, has been a vocal critic of President Trump, frequently using his program as a platform to satirize him.

Despite Fox News positioning Greg Gutfeld as a major late-night figure, it’s important to note that his show airs at 10 p.m., placing it in the prime time slot rather than the traditional late-night hours. As such, he doesn’t directly compete with hosts like Colbert, Fallon, or Kimmel during their usual timeslots.

CBS officials have issued a statement commending Stephen Colbert, stating that they view him as indispensable and plan to conclude “The Late Show” franchise in May 2026. They take great pride in Stephen’s affiliation with CBS, and believe his show will be fondly remembered among the legends who shone on late-night TV. This decision is solely financial, made under difficult circumstances in the late-night market. It has no connection to the program’s ratings, content, or any other ongoing situations at Paramount.

Colbert found out about the show’s cancellation on Wednesday evening and informed his viewers during Thursday’s recording session. He quipped, “What a great job! I only wish someone else was taking it.” When the audience booed, he remarked, “Indeed, I feel the same way. It’s not just our show ending, but also ‘The Late Show’ on CBS. I’m not being replaced; this is all simply disappearing.

Although CBS claims financial difficulties were solely responsible for their decision, there’s speculation in the entertainment industry that other factors might be at play. Whispers point towards potential influence from David Ellison, CEO of Skydance Media, who is said to be a supporter of Donald Trump. Notably, both Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, also associated with Paramount, have been vocal critics of Trump in their late-night shows.

Following his guest spot on “The Late Show,” Senator Adam Schiff took to social media, expressing, “If Paramount and CBS chose to discontinue The Late Show for political motives, the audience deserves transparency and better alternatives.” This statement has ignited discussions among fans and industry experts about whether Stephen Colbert’s political commentary may have contributed to the show’s termination.

It’s unclear what will happen with CBS’s late-night programming, as the debate over politics and entertainment continues to gain volume.
