Get ready for an upcoming Alien sequel titled “Alien: Earth“, produced by Noah Hawley! This prequel takes place a full two years prior to the original 1979 Alien film, promising more Xenomorph action than you’ve ever seen!
On August 12, 2025, you can catch the new show on FX and Hulu. The star-studded cast includes Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, and Adarsh Gourav.
The tale unfolds following a catastrophic landing of an alien spacecraft on our planet. Subsequently, a youthful woman and a troop of soldiers stumble upon a chilling, unknown danger. As stated in the synopsis, Hawley drew inspiration for this series from the initial two Alien films.
In his conversation during a set visit interview, he expressed that when collaborating with Weta Workshop on the design, he was determined not to alter the shape of the Xenomorph in any way.
Nevertheless, the designers made minor adjustments to the original design. As Hawley put it, “I’ve always felt that it looked least effective when it resembled a man in a suit. You know what I mean? So, there are aspects, like in the traditional version, where there’s just this massive chest, which seems very human to me. I wanted to reduce that and explore other possibilities.
He stated that the Xenomorphs in the films are primarily black, but for the series they’re emphasizing a more insectoid appearance. In his words, ‘I wanted to highlight their bug-like nature, so perhaps it veers slightly towards a roach-like coloring’.
Director and producer Dana Gonzales provided additional insights into the presentation of the Xenomorphs. He mentioned that their primary goal was to create creatures that were both simple to film and genuinely terrifying at the same time. In his words, “I believe we’ve come up with something that is extremely cinematic, frightening, and intricately detailed.
He pointed out that in older Alien movies, Xenomorphs would suddenly appear for a fright, but in “Alien: Earth,” they’re seen soaring through the air and pursuing characters. He remarked, “There seems to be a substantial amount of evidence that you can actually see them, and I’m not sure if those other films offered that level of detail.
Gonzales also verified that both Xenomorphs and Facehuggers are genuine, practical entities, not digitally created. In his words, “There’s no CGI Xenomorph here; it’s all real.” He pointed out that Weta was responsible for constructing all the creatures, including multiple Facehuggers that exhibit various actions throughout the production.
He noted, ‘The eggs themselves are remarkably advanced, and we can demonstrate this. I believe this aspect will make our show stand out, particularly since it offers eight hours of such content compared to a one-and-a-half hour film.’
How much action with the Xenomorphs can fans expect in the show? Both Hawley and Gonzales suggest quite a bit. Hawley emphasized that the monsters will have ample screentime. He even stated, “There is indeed a lot of time.” Despite some scenes taking a significant amount of time to film, they ensured that the Xenomorph moments were well-executed.
Gonzales hinted that viewers would be in for a colossal start in Episode 1, but the action truly escalates in Episodes 2 and 3. He mentioned that there was a reshaping during filming to amplify both those episodes. In simpler terms, he said, “They were already enormous. Now, both episodes 2 and 3 are massive.” Gonzales also shared that fans should brace themselves for “an abundance of Xenomorph action throughout.” He described the first three episodes as “incredible.
In each film, the number of Xenomorph scenes is quite limited – just a few frames here and there. However, in this new installment, there’s a significant increase, with extended sequences featuring the Xenomorph. Gonzales assured that this movie will show more Xenomorphs than any other film in the franchise, and he emphasized that their stunt team put in a lot of effort to create realistic and stunning monster scenes, which viewers are sure to notice.
Hawley expressed his ambition to revive the fear-inducing aura of the Alien creatures. He aims to recreate the same level of dread fans felt when they first watched the original movies, as he stated, “‘I am striving to rekindle the mystery surrounding Alien. A significant part of what made the first film and its sequel so terrifying was that every time you thought you understood this creature’s life cycle, it would just get more unsettling.’” Hawley explained his efforts to shock viewers once more, saying, “‘I have attempted to devise methods that the series reinstates that feeling of anticipation, ‘What’s going to happen next? That’s disgusting!’ ‘“.
Featuring fresh creature designs, practical effects in real life, and a significant increase of Xenomorph activity, Alien: Earth appears to be an eagerly anticipated spectacle for both sci-fi and horror enthusiasts. The countdown is almost over, as the series will debut on FX and Hulu this coming August.
