HBO Boss Discusses the Possibility of THE PENGUIN Season 2

Initially, The Penguin wasn’t the most beloved Batman antagonist. However, the 2024 HBO series featuring Colin Farrell as the infamous Gotham crook turned out to be one of the standout shows of the year. It was exceptionally well-received, garnering a total of 24 Emmy nominations, including nods for Farrell and series standout Cristin Milioti. Although The Penguin received a nomination for Best Limited Series, there’s a chance that we might see more from it in the future. In an interview with Variety about HBO’s Emmy success this year, they asked HBO’s Casey Bloys about the potential continuation of The Penguin series. Here’s what he had to express:

At present, Matt Reeves’ main focus lies in getting “The Batman-Part II” off the ground. It seems like they’re making headway with the project. Matt and showrunner Lauren LeFranc have discussed potential concepts, which suggests a sequel could be on the horizon. However, for now, it appears that Matt is primarily concerned with the movie itself. That being said, I understand that Lauren is brainstorming ideas that might complement the film’s narrative. It’s definitely plausible, but at this stage, I can’t say for certain.

It appears that another season of “The Penguin” might be quite some time off, given that “The Batman – Part II” needs to release first. However, it’s confirmed that Colin Farrell will star in the sequel, despite his reservations about the demanding makeup process. As Casey Bloys mentioned, Farrell’s dedication is crucial because he portrays a complex character and spends hours daily in makeup. If Farrell wins an Emmy, there might be renewed interest in discussing a second season. So, we’ll just have to stay patient and find out.
