94/98 Zinedane Zidane Ultimate Team card may be this year’s Lionel Messi debacle

It appears there’s an issue with FIFA Ultimate Team 25’s free rewards, specifically the high-rated Zinedane Zidane card that EA Sports offers as an incentive for players who haven’t logged in for a while. This card can be upgraded to a 94 overall by completing challenges, but due to a bug, some players have managed to upgrade it twice, raising its overall rating to an astonishing 98.

A player card rated 98 overall is essentially a top-tier player for the final stages of the game, and it’s still quite some time until the anticipated September launch of the next Football Club game. This issue seems to affect only a few players, but there will be significantly more 98 overall Zidane cards in circulation than Electronic Arts initially intended. This is particularly noteworthy because they had planned for none to be in circulation at all.

Experience players might recall the chaos from last year due to EA mistakenly distributing an excessive number of Team of The Year cards featuring Lionel Messi. This blunder has significant implications for a marketplace that’s inherently delicate.

The objective behind making the Zidane card available was to draw back inactive players. Many have returned, only to discover why they had stopped playing. If you log into Ultimate Team by February 14th, you’ll receive the 90 Zidane card. If you played FC 24 before September 26th, 2024 and FC 25 before October 31st, 2024, you’ll be able to upgrade this card further through in-game challenges. However, it seems the second upgrade is entirely unpredictable.
