TikTok is at it again, making another unlikely combination of songs hugely popular. This time, people are obsessed with a remix that mashes up Nicki Minaj’s 2012 hit “Beez in the Trap” with 4 Non Blondes’ 1993 classic “What’s Up?” – and it’s all over your feed!
TikTok user @dj.auxlord, who’s famous for unexpectedly combining different songs, originally created the mix. It was posted in August 2025, but didn’t become popular until a couple of months after. By October, it had gone viral, and over 700,000 videos now feature the sound.

The video has a straightforward yet engaging format. Two people stand with their backs to each other while the camera switches between them. One of them dramatically lip-syncs the powerful chorus – “Hey-yeah-yeah” – from Linda Perry’s song “What’s Up?”
The camera then focuses on the other person, who casually raps a line from Nicki Minaj’s song, “Beez in the trap.” This sudden switch from emotional rock music to laid-back rap is what makes the combination so captivating.
The trend has inspired many creators to make short, funny videos. A particularly popular example came from @almayduh, who recreated characters from the movie Matilda – including the intimidating Miss Trunchbull and Bruce Bogtrotter with a chocolate cake! That single video received over 107 million views and almost 20 million likes.

As Halloween approached, the trend really took off. People started using the sound to create humorous contrasts, acting out scenes with pairs like Fiona and Lord Farquaad, or even classic horror villains like Pennywise and Freddy Krueger.
Nicki Minaj clarified the meaning of her song “Beez in the Trap” during a 2012 appearance on The Graham Norton Show. She explained that “beez” is slang for “I am always,” so the song is essentially saying, “I am always in the trap.” By “the trap,” she means any place where someone earns money. She playfully told Norton, “You in the trap right now, playboy.”
Nicki Minaj and the band 4 Non Blondes are thrilled with how popular the remix has become. 4 Non Blondes shared their excitement on Instagram, saying they’re amazed by all the love it’s receiving. Linda Perry simply called it “Crazy.”

Nicki Minaj also participated, creating her own TikTok video with the trending sound. She encouraged her fans, known as ‘Barbz,’ to support others participating in the trend, adding a playful, ‘Love you. You’re cute. Or whatever.’
As a music fan, I’m constantly amazed by what happens on TikTok! This remix is a perfect example of how the app takes older songs and blends genres in totally unexpected – and brilliant – ways. It’s seriously fun and just works, which proves the internet’s creativity is endless. It’s wild to see how things evolve!
