When you consider the WB network, it likely brings to mind popular shows from the ’90s and early 2000s such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Dawson’s Creek,” and “Smallville.” However, the longest-running and highest-rated WB series was the family drama “7th Heaven.” This show, centered around a minister and his large California family, aired for an impressive eleven seasons. It outlived the WB network itself and concluded on the CW. As reported by Deadline, the show is set to be rebooted by CBS Studios, with original cast member Jessica Biel serving as a producer.
It’s uncertain if the new version will be a complete reboot or a continuation of the original “7th Heaven” series, given as a family patriarch on the show, Stephen Collins, has admitted to serious crimes in recent years. We won’t delve into the details, but you can learn more about it in an episode of “Hollywood Demons” on HBO Max. With Jessica Biel involved, there’s a possibility she could take over the storyline, although we don’t have definite answers yet.
7th Heaven was one of Aaron Spelling’s final successful TV series, a prolific producer whose hit shows from the 70s to the 90s are still popular today. Among his many successful productions are Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, and Charmed. Now, much of Spelling’s work is owned by CBS Studios, who aim to exploit the enduring appeal of Spelling’s timeless TV shows in the streaming age. It remains to be seen if 7th Heaven can thrive in a television landscape that has drastically changed.
