Introduction
As a dedicated Blue Archive player with hundreds of hours under my belt, I’ve grown fond of many students in this game, but none quite compare to Ako (Dress) and Makoto. With the 3rd Anniversary events upon us, I find myself at a crossroads – both students are strong in their own right, but only one set of free pulls can be used on each banner.
As we approach the third anniversary celebrations with their accompanying events and promotional materials, we receive an exciting gift of 100 complimentary draws for each of the two new limited characters, Ako (in her dress form) and Makoto. These characters boast impressive abilities, but due to the restriction that these free pulls can only be applied to one banner, a choice must be made.
Prior to delving into character descriptions, let’s briefly explain how free pulls function. The pulls are allotted in sets of 10 daily and can be saved up, so you don’t have to use them right away. However, keep in mind that these pulls will expire when the banners change. Once they’ve expired, they cannot be retrieved again.
Based on my own experience as a dedicated gamer, I want to share that using the 10-pull feature in a gacha game doesn’t mean you’re confined to just one student. Once you’ve made a 10-pull on a specific banner and got yourself a new character, don’t despair if you still have some pulls left. Instead, consider using them on a different banner that might hold your dream character. It’s all about flexibility and making the most out of your in-game resources!
Who to pull for?
As a big fan of this game, I’ll be crafting my suggestions based on a character’s total usage in Japanese servers, alternative options players have, their effectiveness in Tactical Assaults (Raids), and the upcoming 10-unit raid named “Fury of the Set.”
Based on my personal experience and consideration of various factors such as longevity, raid coverage, and required investments, I strongly believe that D.Ako is the optimal choice for me in this game scenario. With my limited time and resources, I prioritize playing with a student who aligns well with my playstyle and will bring value to my team for the long-term. D.Ako’s proven performance and potential for growth make him an excellent investment, ensuring that my efforts are not wasted. Additionally, his coverage in raids is essential for our success, making him an indispensable asset. I have learned from past experiences that investing time and resources into a student who may not meet these criteria can lead to disappointment and frustration. Therefore, I wholeheartedly endorse D.Ako as the best choice for my gaming experience.
Ako (Dress)
As a gamer, have you ever pondered over who could be an effective replacement for Ako in raids, perhaps even an area-of-effect (AoE) variant of their EX Skill? Well, let me tell you from my own gaming experience, there’s no need to search any further. An AoE version of Ako is simply Ako donning a dress.
In simpler terms, D.Ako functions as a moderator, offering identical buffs to her standard version but with lessened amplification and in an area of effect. She relinquishes her Basic Skill restorative abilities and instead inflicts a defense reduction debuff. This makes her a suitable addition for teams with multiple damage dealers or even as an alternative for those needing both a buffer and debuffer.
Regarding her drawbacks, there aren’t many significant issues. The primary concern is that her EX Skill consumes 5 skill points to activate. This constraint/imposition affects your playstyle in high-performance teams, impeding the execution of typical burst combos with DPS characters like Ako or Himari and a filler character. Additionally, her defensive debuff and critical buff enhancements underperform compared to specialized buffer characters.
When it comes to her participation in raids, she has the ability to join any raid that doesn’t clash with her armor type. However, it’s important to consider who she is teamed up with. If you have several high EX Skill students in your party, you may find it challenging to manage skill rotations effectively.
In summary, we strongly advise using your extra pulls on D.Ako. She offers robust buffing abilities and extensive coverage for Extreme and Insane+ raids. Additionally, she is a wise investment for the future since new 10-unit raid slots are expected to be released for damage dealers that primarily use Auto Attacks.
Makoto
Outside of this, Makoto is a viable choice for Piercing raids as an additional boost to your team’s Piercing power. Keep in mind that her effectiveness may be limited during Binah and HOD raids, which primarily focus on single targets, making her less effective as a damage dealer in those scenarios.
Despite this, it’s not advisable to support Makoto’s banner instead of D.Ako’s. Essentially, Makoto is another interchangeable Damage Per Second (DPS) character you can utilize. Sharing a banner with D.Ako doesn’t benefit Makoto significantly.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: Makoto may be an enticing character to some, but for those who aren’t in a rush to top the raids, there are plenty of farmable alternatives at your disposal. Characters like Momoi, Junko, Nonomi, and even Iori can be obtained without spending any additional resources. So, unless you’re dead set on becoming raid royalty, there’s little incentive to invest in Makoto.
I didn’t get either the student i want with the free pulls
Previously mentioned, this anniversary provides merely 100 free pulls. Falling short by another 100 pulls to ensure obtaining one of the rate-up students, your best option if you’re set on having either of them is to invest some Pyroxenes or 10-pull tickets.
Based on my own experience and observation of the game, I believe that whether or not it’s worth spending additional Pyroxenes to guarantee specific units depends greatly on your current account status.
Additionally, anniversary banners aren’t your only responsibility. After all, there are several notable students coming up next for New York, such as NY.Fuuka and Nagisa, who have already proven to be valuable additions. Notably, D.Aru can be compared to Striker Ako in terms of abilities.
If you have extra Pyroxenes, consider using D.Ako. She offers more versatility in terms of uses, and right now, there are no other farmable options for her. In contrast, Makoto has multiple farmable Piercing Area of Effect (AoE) alternatives available.
Conclusion
In summary, D.Ako is an excellent choice due to her extensive raid coverage and ability to boost any crit-capable damage dealer. However, whether or not to spend extra beyond the free 100 pulls depends on your available Pyroxenes. Make sure you have enough left to guarantee obtaining D.Hina and S.Hoshino if you don’t already have them.
