Hello. This is BrownDust2 PD Jun-hee Lee.
Have you been enjoying the second anniversary update we rolled out last month? With your continued support from every region, our dedicated development and business teams had a fulfilling June, filled with appreciation. Once more, thank you for your ongoing support.
In contrast to the carefree vibe of June, the upcoming July 2025 update will carry a slightly more somber tone.
Story Pack 18: SALVATION
In this installment, you receive Story Pack 18 and the concluding chapter of Season 3 titled “Salvation.” The group chasing Azir reaches Cocytus’s ominous temple via Morpeah’s portal. As they move to seize Kalien from Azir, a member touches a book found in his chamber, causing them all to be drawn into Azir’s recollections. Meanwhile, Olivier finds herself in trouble, but Justia’s party intervenes. Will they manage to locate the elusive Azir who vanished with Adeline?
Additionally, we’re busy creating an animated Promotional Video (PV) for Story Pack 18 titled “Salvation”, which marks the climactic end of Season 3. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!
New Seasonal Event: Going Home
The special seasonal event titled “Going Home” will be shown in conjunction with Story Pack 18. This narrative follows the life of Olivier, a valkyrie from Frellea, detailing her past and her time on Earth. With great anticipation, viewers can look forward to observing Olivier’s relentless efforts to safeguard those in need, despite the harsh realities that befall her.
Introduction to the Characters
Olivier
Prepare to meet the leading character for July’s Pack 18 and our Seasonal Event, titled “Going Home.” She’s a legendary valkyrie, known as the “faithful servant,” and she’s also the mother of Justia. We present to you Olivier, the Valkyrie of Faithfulness, who will soon be joining us.
Please note that her Pickup is planned for the latter half of 2025.
* As always, remember that the availability of Olivier, the Valkyrie of Faithfulness, is tentatively scheduled for the second half of 2025.
Kalien
A powerful figure known as Apostle Kalien, whose memory was taken by Azir and serves as the “First Apostle,” is set for an update featuring a fresh costume. This character’s combat strategy primarily focuses on bestowing favorable effects upon herself.
??? (Name TBA)
The mightiest and most intimidating valkyrie, adorned with wings as dark as night, is set for an upgrade. For further information, delve into Story Pack 18. Her distinctive trait includes a broad attack range, where she effectively battles foes by dealing significant damage in unique ways.
Granadair
In the upcoming Seasonal Event, the character known for being the Queen of Gluttis and the one who assisted Refithea in Brown Dust – Granadair – will make an appearance. Keep an eye out for her adventures, as she’s here to safeguard the fairies in the Fairy Kingdom. However, please note that this time, you won’t be able to play with Granadair herself.
Hansen
Allow me to present a character named Hansen, who will feature in our Seasonal Event. Despite being a male character, we chose to include him due to his pivotal part in the narrative. However, please note that he won’t be available for players to control.
Hansen is a human boy with unique abilities: he works alongside a wizard who manipulates pure mana and a scholar researching fairies.
Skill Cutscene
Here are images of the skill cutscenes for the characters above.
??? (Name TBA)
Art team’s single-line comment: When she makes her mind up, none escapes alive.
Kalien
Art Team’s single-line comment: Ever wonder what a new city would look like in a fantasy world?
Pickup Information
Fiend Hunter
The desire for the re-airing of weeks 1 and 2 features Blue Beard, also known as Wind.
Blue Beard’s fighting style revolves around enhancing himself to unleash potent assaults. However, a downside to his combat strategy is that he sustains more damage in return.
In the third and fourth weeks, a new adversary emerges, known as the Chimera of Resentment (Darkness). This foe with a dark attribute unleashes potent multi-strike assaults every turn, dealing increasingly heavy damage as it gets hit more times.
Guild Raid
Lord Arc Farlas, the empty vessel, emerges without any initial attributes. His combat strategy revolves around taunting certain areas and amplifying his subsequent attacks, depending on how many times he’s been hit beforehand.
*This section includes enhancements made in July, which were previously shared via Developer Notes. We’re repeating the info here for those who may not have caught the initial updates.*
Fiend Hunter Improvements (July 17th)
Level Selection Battle
In the past version of Fiend Hunter, high Combat Power players still had to start from level 1 each season, which was quite troublesome. But now, with this update, you won’t have to clear stages sequentially! Instead, you can choose any level you prefer and automatically receive rewards for all lower levels as well. However, keep in mind that the highest selectable level is currently set at 10. This change should make your gameplay experience smoother and more efficient!
Previous Levels Considered Cleared
Furthermore, if you don’t manage to conquer the chosen level, a novel feature will be introduced. In this feature, your progress in lower levels will be automatically marked as complete, depending on the amount of harm inflicted upon the creature during the fight.
If you engage a level 10 fiend that has 100 HP and a level 9 fiend with 80 HP, deal 90 damage to the level 10 fiend, it’s considered that you have defeated up to level 9 fiends since the remaining battle involves only lower level opponents.
By completing this action, you’ll be granted immediate access to the rewards from levels 1 through 9, plus the bonus for conquering level 10. Additionally, you’ll have an opportunity for a “Speed Battle” on level 10 the following day, with its health remaining at the original 10 HP.
Rank Segmentation/Hunter Rank
In the next update, we’re enhancing the ranking segmentation on Fiend Hunter. At present, it only shows rankings among the top 1,000 users, potentially decreasing motivation for those ranked below due to a restricted feeling of pride and competition.
In the upcoming update, a fresh “Player Ranking System” called “Hunter Rank” will be implemented to provide a clearer representation of each player’s standing.
Even though you may have advanced up to level 10 without making it into the top 1,000, you can still delight in the process and the feeling of accomplishment as your Hunter Rank continues to climb higher.
Glupy Diner Improvements (July 17th)
The vibrant Glupy Diner is making a comeback, promising an even more bustling environment! Unlike the My Room expansion which emphasized decoration fun, Glupy Diner centers around the delightful experience of witnessing diverse scenarios happening within the restaurant, offering a unique form of entertainment.
Initially, small speech bubbles are placed over the characters’ heads, offering a peek into the secret thoughts that both employees and patrons may harbor.
Hereafter, you’ll find details regarding interactive events at Glupy Diner. By tapping on these random occurrences, you can accumulate a new currency called “Deco Coins.” These events transpire continuously throughout the day, however, there is a daily cap on the number of Deco Coins you can amass. To maximize your Deco Coin collection upon entering the diner, take advantage of this opportunity. As this currency is solely for decorative purposes, individuals with an eye for design are encouraged to participate.
Furthermore, Glupy Diner is set to dynamically adapt its ambiance to real-life time zones. This means that the backgrounds and visuals will change depending on the local time in each area. For instance, if it’s nighttime in your location, Glupy Diner will mirror this by appearing as a night scene. Similarly, the background music (BGM) will adjust to suit the tranquil atmosphere of the night hours.
To wrap it up, we’re going to incorporate a UI-hiding function, allowing you to immerse yourself completely in the revamped ambiance at Glupy Diner. You’ll find this new feature conveniently located on the left side of your screen.
Glupy Diner Messenger Improvements (July 17th)
In the Messenger system of Glupy Diner, enhancements are being planned. Firstly, a new option called “View Past Message History” will be implemented, enabling users to revisit previous messages. Secondly, individuals who are Fated Guests but haven’t been added as contacts yet, will now show up in the Suggested Friends List, making it simpler to spot and connect with them.
Battle UI Improvements (July 17th)
At long last, we’re enhancing the user interface during battles! Now, the battle preparation screen will show arrows indicating knockback directions for characters, and you’ll be able to view skill details right there instead of relying on companions. We appreciate your patience as we’ve worked hard to bring this requested feature to life.
Show Costumes (July 17th)
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but appreciate one standout aspect of BrownDust2 – its distinctive system linking costumes to specific characters. While this feature adds a unique touch, some players have voiced concerns about the challenge of locating a desired costume within a character. To alleviate this issue, an exciting new feature is on the horizon: a user-friendly interface that allows us fans to effortlessly browse all costumes associated with each character. This upgrade promises to make finding our favorite outfits faster and smoother than ever!
Character Filter Feature Added
Furthermore, we’re planning to incorporate a ‘Character Filter’ option for players. This feature enables users to refine their search based on factors like Character Potential stage or Awakening status. The filters will persist across pages, including the “See Details” page, ensuring smooth navigation and easy access to relevant information without any hassle.
Character Icon/Name Improvement and Search Feature Added
Beyond that, you’ll notice character thumbnails now show the character’s name, and we’ve incorporated a new search function to facilitate searches by name. This enhancement makes it easier to find characters as well as costumes, since you can also search by costume names. This should speed up and simplify your quest for specific characters or costumes, particularly for newcomers who have expressed difficulties remembering the names of characters or costumes. We anticipate that this upgrade will significantly enhance your browsing experience. Initially, the name search function will be implemented in the Companion UI, with updates to follow for other UIs in August.
Gear Filter Added (July 17th)
A new, advanced filter system is being introduced to make it simpler for players to find their preferred equipment. With this update, you can refine your search by considering factors such as upgrade level, upgrade points, and specific features that match what you’re seeking, ensuring a quicker search for the right gear.
Gear Upgrade Rank Displayed (July 17th)
We’ve noticed some players find it difficult to compare upgrade ranks like CSA and SAA because they aren’t immediately intuitive. To make things clearer, we’ve reorganized the upgrade scores into a simple table and enhanced our user interface so that each score is directly displayed as a number on the gear thumbnail. Although some players have already worked out the internal calculation rules and used them effectively, this update ensures that all players can now easily grasp and take advantage of the upgrade system with an improved, more intuitive UI.
See Gear Details (July 17th)
Earlier, you had to tap each gear item separately to check the options, which was rather cumbersome. Now, we’re introducing an enhancement that includes a “Gear Details View”. This feature will allow you to easily view all the options for each gear piece in one go.
Easier Character Growth (July 17th)
Earlier, the laborious task of manually assigning Slimes and advancing each rank individually was rather time-consuming. Now, with this upgrade, you can elevate a character from level 1 to level 100 instantly if you have enough Slimes and Rank-up Stars at hand. If you lack necessary materials, the character will only be increased up to the level determined by the available resources.
During our second anniversary celebration live stream, we intended to delve into some points from the past survey findings; however, time slipped away, and we couldn’t cover those insights as planned. Now, let me quickly run through a few highlights.
Initially, we conducted a review to assess contentment with the past cooperative gathering. The percentage of those expressing dissatisfaction amounted to 53%, while 43% were satisfied. In summary, the findings indicated generally underwhelming outcomes given the predominant dissatisfaction.
To sum up, the primary dissatisfaction in this occasion stems from lower-than-expected battle effectiveness, minimal impact during skill cinematics, and restricted character expression. Let me first share my thoughts on the battle equilibrium.
In previous collaborative events, some players raised concerns due to excessively powerful characters that were difficult for newcomers to handle. This time around, we took care to ensure our character designs didn’t create such an issue.
Originally, the battle team proposed figures much stronger than what we currently have, but I suggested multiple adjustments for a balanced experience, which resulted in the present battle performance. However, many players raised concerns from the viewpoint of those who joined during the event itself.
When fresh gamers hopped on board our game for the collaborative characters, I could sense the excitement in the air. However, it wasn’t long before their enthusiasm waned as they found these characters underperforming. Consequently, their interest in our game started to dwindle.
Once more, this experience underscored the challenge of striking a balance that appeals to both seasoned players and new fans, while also catering to those who might join us in the future. If we get another shot at running a collaboration event, I’m determined to learn from this situation and create characters with just the right power level – neither too strong nor too weak.
Moving forward, we’d like to discuss your thoughts about clarity and constraints in expression. At present, narrowing down our options significantly if we aim to find collaborative intellectual property while preserving our level of transparency. As the primary goal of hosting collaboration events is to attract new players, we need to consider its potential impact. Consequently, we’ve opted to address the demand for clarity by creating unique characters.
However, it’s important to note that this decision is tentative and we will make a final call after thorough deliberation, ensuring we maintain our focus on attracting new players through the allure of two distinct worlds colliding.
I deeply apologize if the collaborative event didn’t live up to your hopes. Rest assured, we will strive to organize an improved event for you in the future.
Next, we have results on the existing content you wish to update.
Three graphs stand out.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say it: Glupy Diner is currently sitting pretty at number one! This ranking seems to be influenced by feedback on those Fated Guests.
Also worth mentioning, two content packs came in second and third place.
Now here’s a fun twist: in previous surveys, the Story Pack was usually the crowd favorite. But this time around, it was the Character Pack, or that intriguing parallel world pack, that stole the show.
Leaving out the top three items, the remaining ones had a growth of 10% or lower. The Evil Castle category took up around 7-8%, while content categories like Mirror Wars, Last Night, Fiend Hunter, and Guild Raid were recorded at 5% or less.
Considering this factor, I isolated the data specifically for our longtime, or “ancient”, players, assuming they may hold unique perspectives. Yet, the outcomes showed patterns remarkably similar to those across the entire player base.
As a seasoned gamer, I’ve noticed a trend among both veterans and fresh faces in the gaming world: we all seem to lean towards more relaxed, casual gameplay experiences. However, what truly keeps us hooked is the engaging storylines that propel our characters forward, making each level or quest feel like part of a larger, captivating narrative.
Moving forward, let’s discuss the survey findings about desired future content:
1. The most preferred content is centered around lifestyle topics such as fishing and housing.
2. Content that resembles a plaza where users can gather and socialize came in third place.
3. It was noted that there is a significant interest in expanding lifestyle-focused content offerings.
The runner-up is our latest mini-games, specifically “Fiend Hunter: Edge of Fury.” For this round, we’re featuring it. However, some users have shared concerns about its high difficulty level and tricky controls on smartphones. To make your gaming experience better, we will focus on creating more user-friendly mini-games in the future. We welcome any suggestions you might have for improving “Fiend Hunter: Edge of Fury” as we plan to implement them during repeat releases. Lastly, get ready for a new enjoyable mini-game coming with our August update! Stay tuned for updates.
In our plans for crafting content for player-versus-player (PvP) battles, I found myself surprised as the preference turned out to be lower than anticipated. Our goal in developing PvP content is to offer an enjoyable experience for players who have exhausted existing content. We’ll share further details with you once we’ve finalized the specific plan for this battle content.
Finally, we have the questionnaire on why you play BrownDust2.
As anticipated, the illustration won with a voting percentage of 26%. Close behind were battle and story, which garnered 14% and 13%, respectively. Given that battle forms the heart of our game system, this wasn’t too surprising. However, it was quite remarkable to see the story placing third. In contrast, Fated Guest came in fourth place, while game management followed closely behind in fifth position.
For your convenience, we’ve separated the findings according to their respective languages. Here’s a breakdown for each tongue involved: [Provide specific information about the findings for each language]
In my gaming experience, it was the same player who clinched the top spot, undeniably. The competition got tighter for the runner-up and third positions, though – there were noticeable variations in performance there.
In the Korean and Traditional Chinese surveys, it was found that game management and player-focused communication were ranked third in importance among factors influencing gameplay. It’s quite surprising to see that these aspects play such a crucial role in players’ decisions to engage with mobile games featuring live services. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation yet again to the team in our business department for their exceptional work in managing and growing our business.
In addition to this, it’s worth noting that the battle and story were ranked as the second and third most important elements. It was quite surprising that the Fated Guest came in second place in a Traditional Chinese survey. It was clear that the Fated Guest played a significant role in the main content of BrownDust2.
I’ve got something interesting here – the results from the same survey we did back in October. It’s fascinating to see how people’s views have shifted over the past eight months. Last time, the survey only allowed for one choice, and it seemed like illustration was the clear favorite, with a whopping 70% of votes. This time around, though, it looks like folks are appreciating a wider range of aspects in our game, from illustration to other elements too. I think this change is a positive sign that our service is improving and becoming more balanced. We’re dedicated to continuously enhancing your experience in all areas, not just the ones you’ve highlighted as strengths. Let’s keep gaming together!
That is it for today.
We’re here to share details and express our regrets over an unintended content leak.
The incident took place due to a mix-up between the scheduling of Swimsuit Teresse rerun and Swimsuit Prestige skin by one of our team members.
Inadvertently, they uploaded the incorrect file to the internal resource folder.
It’s important to note that this resource wasn’t accessible via the standard in-game route.
Unfortunately, it seems some players have accessed and disseminated the hidden resources by disassembling their client software.
In light of this situation, we’ve issued a formal warning to the responsible staff member.
Additionally, we’ve enhanced our protocols by implementing a double-verification process when uploading internal resources and updates within the game.
Additionally, it’s been reported that there might be a leak of our upcoming schedule. However, this alleged leak is just speculation based on repeat patterns derived from the actual release dates of relevant events and may not be accurate.
Furthermore, we kindly ask you to avoid tampering with the client in unorthodox manners.
Moving forward, we will strive for better management to prevent such occurrences from happening again.
We deeply regret any confusion that arose due to the recent resource leak.
Moving forward, let’s shift our focus to the second broadcast in August. Last time, we delivered an offbeat mix of fun with a profound story. For this upcoming broadcast in August, expect a lively, summery ambiance that only the season can provide. We eagerly look forward to your excitement and eagerness for the next installment as well.
In summary, just as I discussed during our 2-year anniversary live stream, we will begin hosting offline events to celebrate our second anniversary in multiple locations, with the festivities kicking off in July.
Our BrownDust2 beer truck tour kicked off last weekend in Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Taipei. This weekend, you can find us participating in the Bilibili World 2025 event in Shanghai. Our itinerary also includes stops at the San Diego Comic-Con from July 24th to 27th, Busan Illustar Fes on August 9th and 10th, Tokyo Comic Market on August 16th and 17th, New York Anime NYC from August 21st to 24th, and Taipei Fancy Frontier on August 22nd to 24th. We look forward to your enthusiasm for the numerous offline events we’ve arranged to connect with fans in major cities across the globe. We are committed to reaching more fans in more locations.
With that, we will wrap up today’s notes with a gift.
