30. Issa Dee and Molly Carter- Insecure (2016)
Issa (Issa Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) have been companions since their college days and are both strong, self-reliant women in their late twenties, attempting to establish themselves – primarily in Los Angeles. Their characters possess a striking authenticity, particularly resonating with African-American viewers, offering an unfiltered depiction of the challenges faced by women while navigating personal and professional highs and lows.
In this episode, the two characters share a strong bond, addressing matters like personal friendships, the African American community, and internal issues throughout. Issa works at a non-profit organization called “We Got Y’all,” which focuses on supporting middle school students of color. Lawrence, her longtime partner, has been lackadaisical in their relationship ever since his startup business failed, and Issa is finding it challenging to rekindle the passion between them.
Molly, a thriving corporate lawyer, struggles to find suitable romantic partners, even with her impressive career accomplishments. The show explores contemporary societal and racial issues faced by African Americans.
29. Lenny and Squiggy -Laverne and Shirley (1973)

In the title roles, Penny Marshall portrays a hard-nosed character while Cindy Williams plays an ever-optimistic one, but it’s Laverne & Shirley that falls into the category of many sitcoms where the neighbor characters become the scene-stealers. Leonard Kosnowksi and Andrew Squiggman, for instance, are famous for their small nicknames, distinctive “Hello!” greeting, greaser appearance, and unrelenting lack of intelligence.
Shirley Feeney and Laverne DeFazio lived together as close friends and navigated relationships with others, including each other. They spent their days working side by side capping bottles at Shotz Brewery in Milwaukee during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Unfortunately, they were both let go from their jobs when an automated bottle capper took over their positions in 1965. The pair then decided to move on to a new chapter in life, settling down in Burbank, California.
28. Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott -I Spy (1965)
Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott assume the roles of an American undercover agent and his tennis coach, jet-setting across the globe to conceal their true line of work. Their duties are weighty, devoid of flamboyant, power-hungry antagonists or high-tech gadgets, yet they share a deep connection.
This pair of American undercover agents skillfully, humorously, yet with genuine apprehension about their line of work, handle their assignments. Kelly Robinson, previously a law student at Princeton and a tennis player for the Davis Cup, is her partner. Alexander Scott, who is both Kelly’s boyfriend and close friend, is also a Rhodes scholar, trains Kelly, and possesses expertise in various languages.
Scott’s groundbreaking achievement – being the first African-American male to receive an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama – was overshadowed by his regrettable actions away from the screen, which are deeply troubling. Yet, at one point, these two were the most popular figures on television.
27. Wyatt And Billy -Easy Rider (1969)

Following a successful drug transaction, the free-spirited duo Wyatt and Billy chose to upgrade their possessions, including motorcycles – with Wyatt sporting what he calls his Captain America attire and a matching theme on his bike. Abandoning all other obligations in their lives except their eagerness to participate in Mardi Gras, they embarked on a journey from their base in Los Angeles to New Orleans for the festival within approximately a week.
They won’t use their funds for this trip; instead, they’re setting it aside for a relaxed lifestyle in Florida later, and they plan to sleep under the stars as they travel. While Wyatt is easy-going, favoring acts of kindness by helping others when possible and seeking help when needed, Billy is cautious about the people they encounter, particularly concerning their secret stash of cash hidden in Wyatt’s motorbike’s gas tank – a sum that will be crucial for their future.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it this way: In this journey, I’ll uncover that not every counter-culturalist shares the same thoughts, and I might find profound spiritual and practical connections in the least expected places and people. However, being a hippie will undoubtedly stir some controversy, perhaps due to the fear of what we represent rather than any personal animosity towards us. Throughout this adventure, I’ll ponder if this journey will meet my expectations or provide the purpose I seek in life.
26. Smith and Carlton Banks- The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (1990)

One of these cousins is the latest addition. The other, however, has a unique history. These relatives initially argued, but later proved to be an unstoppable duo. They didn’t often interact, but when they did, it was as if they were a single entity. Both had areas where they lacked insight into their flaws, yet they were prepared to point out each other’s mistakes.
In his first acting gig, Will Smith portrays a streetwise teenager hailing from West Philadelphia. Due to a scuffle he got into with some local toughs during a game of basketball, his mom decides to move him to live with her well-off relatives in their Bel Air mansion, situated in sunny Los Angeles, California.
Uncle Philip Banks, portrayed by James Avery, is a well-established lawyer who later becomes a judge. Aunt Vivian Banks, first played by Janet Hubert and then by Daphne Reid, is a university professor known for her practicality and career focus.
Among the other members of the Banks family are Carlton Banks, a preppy and arrogant cousin played by Alfonso Ribeiro; Hilary Banks, Will’s attractive but somewhat dim-witted older cousin, portrayed by Karyn Parsons; Ashley Banks, Will’s eldest cousin who can be dull-witted at times, played by Tatyana Ali; Will’s younger cousin who often admires him; and Geoffrey, the family’s witty but cynical Butler.
In a humorous manner, the stark contrast between Will’s blue-collar background often leads to conflicts with the refined society of the Banks family, frequently landing them in tricky situations together.
25. Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson- Sherlock (2010)

As a passionate cinephile, I must say that the bond between Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson is older than any romantic pairing you’ll find in our cinematic chronicles. However, it was the BBC who infused fresh vitality into this timeless friendship by reimagining the classic detective story with a contemporary twist.
A contemporary reinterpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories features Martin Freeman as John Watson, a former army physician who was wounded in Afghanistan and is subsequently discharged from service. Upon his return to London, he finds shared accommodations with the enigmatic and unconventional detective, Sherlock Holmes (portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch), who excels in investigation but exhibits peculiar behavioral traits.
When regular methods fail, the authorities turn to the unconventional strategies of the enigmatic detective, Sherlock Holmes, for assistance. Accompanied by his confidant, Dr. John Watson (who has just returned from Afghanistan), Sherlock employs his unique deductive abilities to tackle some of the nation’s most intricate puzzles. Together, they unravel complex and often peculiar murder mysteries. However, they must remain vigilant against their formidable adversary, Moriarty – a criminal mastermind.
24. Jimmy McNulty and ‘Bunk’ Moreland- The Wire (2002)

In the TV series “The Wire,” detective partners Jimmy McNulty and William “Bunk” Moreland often found themselves working separately instead of together across the show’s five seasons, due to Bunk’s special investigation assignment. However, their exceptional mental connection was vividly portrayed in what is now famously known as “the f-bomb scene,” where the team, while solving a homicide at a crime site, communicated almost exclusively using variations of the word “fuck.” Brilliantly done.
23. Ren & Stimpy- The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991)
Despite initially seeming unlikely, combining a psychotic Chihuahua (Ren) with an affectionate but annoying cat (Stimpy) led to some of the most exceptional animated television from the 1990s. Packed with dark humor and Ren’s emotional, unstable, yet side-splittingly funny outbursts, often aimed at Stimpy, it remains Nickelodeon’s most daring show.
An energetic, lively Chihuahua (what other type is there?) and a laid-back, not-so-bright cat embark on peculiar and often uncomfortable escapades together. Incidents involving hairballs, soiled litter trays, mysterious “nose hobgoblins,” intelligent flatulence, jars of saliva, outhouses, consuming soil, pesky monkeys, and any other imaginable unpleasant substances are frequent occurrences in their lives.
These pair of peculiar companions embark on a string of humorous escapades, such as peddling rubber nipples, scouting land for Canada, staying overnight at a spooky residence, and simply job hunting.
22. Lee and Carter- Rush Hour trilogy (1998-2007)

Buddy cop movies have flourished by showcasing the friction between two men who share a common goal but struggle to align their approaches, ever since the genre first emerged with 48 Hours in 1982. Characters like Lee and Carter demonstrate this dynamic not only through differences in methods, but also due to cultural and linguistic disparities (it’s been suggested that when Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker worked together, each communicated to the director that they found it difficult to understand their co-star’s words).
Initially, a mix of misunderstandings and frustration can be hilarious; combine that with Chan’s impressive martial arts stunts and Tucker’s rapid-fire wit, and you’re looking at a massive box office success.
In an intriguing twist, two law enforcers hailing from distinct realms find a surprising shared dislike: they struggle to get along. Their contrasting cultures clash fiercely, and tensions escalate significantly. With time running short, they are compelled to put aside their differences and join forces to capture the criminals and malefactors at large.
21. Jack Bauer and Chloe O’Brian- 24 (2010)
If it weren’t for Chloe, the level-headed computer whiz who is his most trusted ally and dearest friend, where would the fiery anti-terrorist agent Jack Bauer find himself? That’s precisely my role. Mary Lynn Rajskub’s comedic past made her an excellent foil to Kiefer Sutherland’s intense action hero, ensuring that the legendary War on Terror drama always had an unanticipated and humorous platonic duo at its heart.
20. J.D. Dorian & Christopher Turk- Scrubs (2001)
In a way that’s more conversational: Among these pairs, none embodied the concept of “bromance” quite like J.D. and Turk. Their friendship was so strong that it sometimes overshadowed Turk’s marital commitments, providing some of the funniest moments in the series.
I find myself immersed in the captivating narrative at the mythical Sacred Heart Hospital in sunny California. As John “J.D” Dorian, I journey through the intricate landscape of medicine, guided by my dearest companion and fellow novice doctors, as well as the knowledgeable yet pompous mentor I greatly admire who serves as the attending physician.
19. Woody & Buzz – Toy Story (1995)

1995 saw the premiere of Pixar’s pioneering animated feature film, Toy Story – a buddy comedy. In the presence of humans, these toys appear inanimate, but they secretly come to life when alone. The heart of the story revolves around the bond between Woody, a classic pull-string cowboy doll (voice by Tom Hanks), and Buzz Lightyear, a high-tech space ranger action figure (voice by Tim Allen).
Over time, the relationship between the lead characters evolves from adversaries competing for Andy’s affection to allies collaborating to reunite their toy family with Andy following their separation during a move to a new home. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, this film spawned two sequels and is currently working on a third, solidifying their fame as a well-known duo in households everywhere.
18. Bill and Ted- Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)
Bill S, Preston ESQ., and Ted Theodore Logan, who were nearly brainless teenagers residing in the small town of San Dimas, near Los Angeles, harbored a dream of establishing their own rock and roll band, which they named “Wyld Stallyns.
Unfortunately, they’re both high school students teetering on the brink of separation, and if either of them fails their upcoming history project, Ted will be sent to military school, tearing them apart. However, they’re oblivious to the fact that they need to stick together to save the future. To help them pass their project and keep them united, Rufus – a man from the future – showed up. Consequently, Bill and Ted started gathering historical information for their assignment.
17. Andy Taylor and Barney Fife- The Andy Griffith Show (1960)
Despite being related as cousins and working together professionally, there was no obligation for them to get along. Remarkably, they proved to be a highly effective duo. Andy, with his calm and collected demeanor, stood out as the consummate professional, while Barney, known for his less-than-pleasant behavior, was the opposite.
In the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina, the widower Sheriff Andy Taylor lives alongside his son Opie and his aunt Bee. Sheriff Taylor is often found pondering life’s questions and keeping his overly anxious cousin Deputy Barney Fife at ease, as crime in their peaceful community is seldom.
16. Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick- Spongebob Squarepants (1999)

Over the past 17 years, I’ve been residing in a pineapple submerged under the sea, a place that has catapulted me to Nickelodeon’s most successful, widely licensed, and profitable long-running property. However, it’s my not-so-bright but kind-hearted starfish neighbor and friend Patrick who has been an indispensable part of my success. The squeaky-voiced, eternally optimistic sea sponge known as Spongebob Squarepants wouldn’t have achieved this level of fame without him.
The animated show “SpongeBob SquarePants” centers around the lively and frequently bizarre escapades of SpongeBob SquarePants, a perpetually optimistic and genuine sea sponge, and his aquatic companions.
In a two-story pineapple below the sunny island of Bikini Atoll, tucked away in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, resides the quirky character named SpongeBob. Unlike most who approach life logically, SpongeBob tends to view things from an unconventional perspective.
In a tranquil underwater setting, SpongeBob’s well-meaning actions and zestful approach towards life often stir up chaos. This is evident whether he’s on the hunt for the perfect spatula to elevate his burger-flipping artistry at the Krusty Krab, or just enjoying time with his best friend, the easygoing Patrick (a starfish pal).
15. Itchy and Scratchy – The Simpsons (1994)
Over the span of more than two decades on The Simpsons, the animated antagonistic pair has provided countless enjoyable moments for both Bart and Lisa.
In a twist of events, The Simpson family pay a visit to Itchy and Scratchy World, a park modeled after their favorite violent TV series. Unfortunately for Bart and Homer, they both end up getting detained for annoying performers dressed as Itchy characters. As the robotic characters become aggressive, reminiscent of the ‘Westworld’ robots, the team decides to escape. However, in a heroic turn of events, The Simpsons step up to save the day by neutralizing the hostile robots using camera flashbulbs.
14. Bonnie & Clyde – Bonnie & Clyde (1967)

A significant number of pairs in this list were influenced by the 1967 film “Bonnie and Clyde,” which featured Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. This movie, an adaptation of the real-life story of infamous bank robbers Clyde Barrow (portrayed by Beatty) and Bonnie Parker (played by Dunaway), transgressed several cinematic norms, such as depictions of sex and intense violence. It proved popular among a younger audience.
The movie takes place during the Great Depression, where Clyde is trying to steal Bonnie’s mom’s car, and they first cross paths. Restless with her ordinary life, Bonnie is captivated by Clyde and decides to team up with him as his accomplice. Initially starting with petty robberies, the excitement and money aren’t enough to satisfy their craving for adventure and riches.
13. Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble – The Flintstones (1960)
Mr. Flintstone and Mr. Rubble lived as neighbors, colleagues, dearest friends, and fellow members of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes. The pair, represented by Fred and Barney, exemplify that masculinity has long been accompanied by a tender heart, tracing back to the Stone Age era.
The Flintstones were a family living during the modern Stone Age era. Fred Flintstone resided in the town of Bedrock and had an unfulfilling job at the quarry before heading back home to his stunning wife, Wilma, and their daughter Pebbles. An avid golfer and bowler, Fred often found amusement in teasing his neighbor Barney Rubble, whose witty wife Betty was close friends with Wilma.
12. Prince Akeem and Semmi – Coming To America (1988)
In this rephrased version, Prince Akeem is skillfully halted by Semmi (Arsenio Hall), who’s dismayed by their act of pretending to be impoverished immigrants in a foreign land. This scene is one of Eddie Murphy’s more subdued performances. The duo’s lack of knowledge about American culture and tendency to mispronounce words consistently generate humor throughout.
11. Chandler Bing & Joey Tribbiani – Friends (1994)

The roommates/best friends developed a bond that surpassed the typical friendships among their peers while being part of a shared group. To simply label their relationship as a “bromance” would be an understatement; it was something far deeper and more complex. Their unique blend of contrasting traits and shared qualities allowed them to complement each other remarkably well.
A group of six young adults residing in New York City (specifically Manhattan) navigate their way through life’s challenges while trying to establish themselves financially. They discover that the camaraderie, solace, and encouragement they provide each other serves as an effective remedy for life’s pressures. As they explore the essence of friendship, this ordinary group of friends encounters chaos, family turmoil, romantic entanglements, disagreements, laughter, tears, and surprises.
10. Elwood and Jake Blues – The Blues Brothers (1980)
In John Landis’ iconic musical comedy “The Blues Brothers” (1980), John Belushi portrays Jake Blues and Dan Aykroyd plays his brother Elwood Blues. The movie follows the story of these two brothers, formerly criminals who have been released from prison, as they embark on a quest ordained by God to save the orphanage where they were raised from impending foreclosure. This heartwarming tale is based on the popular musical comedy routine by the Blues Brothers that first emerged on Saturday Night Live in the late 1970s.
The pair revives their R&B group and arranges a concert to collect the $5,000 needed for the orphanage’s property tax payment. Throughout the movie, they face hot pursuit from local law enforcement, a dangerous enigmatic woman, Neo-Nazis, and a western music band. This film offers great action, humor, and music, along with entertaining dialogues between John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.
In this version, I’ve simplified the text by using more common phrases, shorter sentences, and clearer explanations for certain elements like “chased” and “pursued.” Also, I’ve added a brief description of the movie genre (action, humor, music) to make it easier for readers to understand.
9. Walter White and Jesse Pinkman – Breaking Bad (2008)

In essence, while Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston) serves as the mastermind behind their operation, Jesse Pinkman (portrayed by Aaron Paul) functions as a calming influence and rational guide for his unpredictable partner. Over time, their relationship transcends the traditional student-teacher dynamic; Walt’s behavior grows more erratic, while Jesse comes to terms with expressing empathy.
The turbulent journey of two individuals involved in drug trafficking, struggling to earn a living amidst the intricate and corrupt criminal underworld, transitioned from seeking money to striving for survival; this sordid tale unfolds after an honorable high school teacher, diagnosed with cancer and given limited time, resorts to such means to financially support his family. Despite their continued involvement in the operation, they gradually devise a plan to extricate themselves as swiftly as possible, regardless of the expense.
8. Batman and Robin – Batman (1997)
In the early DC Comics, this duo appeared for the first time, but it wasn’t until 1966, following the end of the first season of the Batman TV series, that they graced the big screen in Batman: The Movie. This iconic team of crime-fighters, Batman and Robin, have served as the blueprint for crime-fighting duos in films ever since.
Under Batman’s leadership and with Robin by his loyal companion, these formidable crime-fighters confront villains such as The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman.
Batman steers the ship, while Robin stands ready beside him, both powerful crime-fighters tackle adversaries like The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman.
7. Rick and Morty – Rick and Morty (2013)

Rick, an unconventional scientist with a penchant for alcohol and eccentricity, consistently defies traditional norms in areas such as education, relationships, marriage, and family life. Morty, Rick’s 14-year-old grandson, is a compassionate but easily unsettled youth whose wholesome moral sense acts as a balancing factor to Rick’s self-centered ambition.
Rick steps into Morty’s living quarters and implores for aid on a cosmic voyage. With a reluctant nod, Morty agrees and sets off on an unending odyssey through time, space, and alternate realities. As Rick creates havoc wherever they land, Morty finds himself tasked with keeping him in check.
In the intriguing universe of our series, various iterations of the characters inhabit distinct realities, and their unique traits may fluctuate from one reality to another. As for where I hail from, the original Rick in our show proudly claims to be “Rick Sanchez of Earth Dimension C-137,” though this might not apply to every resident of the Smith household.
6. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully – X-Files (1998)
The dynamic duo of Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) from television are considered one of the strongest male-female pairs in science fiction on screen. Over time, they moved from being colleagues and acquaintances to forming a romantic bond as they investigated the unexplained and extraterrestrial phenomena together.
After five years of probing unexplained supernatural occurrences, The X-Files project is discontinued by the government. Agents Fox “Spooky” Mulder and Dana Scully are reassigned to routine jobs like bomb squad duty. Nevertheless, Mulder gathers proof that strengthens his convictions about alien presence on Earth and a clandestine network of people concealing such information. A series of strange extraterrestrial events in Texas provide the duo with subtle hints for their next move.
5. Seth and Evan – Superbad (2007)

Seth and Evan, two inseparable high school seniors who were about to go their separate ways, found themselves preoccupied with an exciting yet challenging plan: experiencing intimacy for the first time before they left for college. Knowing this wouldn’t be simple, they turned to their good friend Fogell and an ample supply of alcohol as potential aids in impressing girls at the summer’s biggest party, which was mere hours away.
As the guys embark on a frantic search for liquor in town’s stores, an unexpected encounter with law enforcement could jeopardize their ambitious goal. Time is running out, the risks are significant, and they need to succeed with their daring plan before midnight strikes. What’s it like to be utterly reckless?
4. Felix Unger and Oscar Madison – The Odd Couple (1968)
The TV adaptation of ‘The Odd Couple’, originally a hit play and movie, proved equally successful. Actors Jack Klugman and Tony Randall, portraying messy Oscar and neat-freak Felix, thrived in their small-screen roles, particularly when filming in front of a live studio audience. It was intriguing to watch them both struggle to adapt to each other’s way of life.
Felix Ungar recently ended his marriage. He’s feeling quite down and even contemplates taking his own life, but luckily, his friend Oscar Madison intervenes. Oscar suggests that Felix stay with him for a while since he has no other place to go. The problem is that Felix is meticulous, organized, and rather anxious, whereas Oscar is messy and neglectful.
3. Cheech and Chong – Up in Smoke (1978)

Richard “Cheech” Marin and Tommy Chong, known for their humorous collaborations, first gained popularity in the 1970s through their stand-up performances and stage sketches. During this decade, they produced several albums, among them Los Cochinos, which won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 1974. Their act was centered around the hippie culture and free love movement of the 1970s, with cannabis serving as a recurring theme.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the timeless impact of Cheech and Chong. Their hilarious stand-up acts seamlessly transitioned to the big screen, with their iconic “Dave’s not here” joke from “Up In Smoke” (1978) being a testament to this. Their on-screen chemistry was so genuine that it was often hard to distinguish acting from reality. These comedic legends starred in numerous low-budget cult films, and even today, their movies continue to amuse and entertain us all.
2. Riggs and Murtaugh – Lethal Weapon (1987)
The classic buddy cop film Lethal Weapon, renowned for its impact, features Martin Riggs (played by Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh, two Los Angeles Police Department detectives (portrayed by Glover). Riggs, a volatile character, contrasts with Murtaugh, a 50-year-old seasoned officer. Their dissimilar methods of policing lead to some exciting on-screen disagreements.
The movie’s success spawned several sequels and a modern TV adaptation, largely due to the captivating dynamic between its leading characters. Most notably, Riggs and Murtaugh are just as clever and engaging as any other duo on this list, playing a significant role in revitalizing a genre that was once thought to be destined for mediocrity.
1. Tom and Jerry – Tom and Jerry (1911)

Tom and Jerry, a pair of affluent siblings, have collaborated in their shared business ventures for many years, creating an exceptional bond between them.
In this animated show named “Jerry,” we have a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry who are longtime rivals. Each episode usually centers around their ongoing attempts to outsmart each other, causing chaos and destruction along the way. Despite Tom’s clever schemes (whether they succeed or not), his resourceful nature, large size, and superior intelligence, he rarely manages to defeat Jerry. This is because Jerry possesses cunning abilities, good fortune, and a lack of reckless behavior that often helps him escape Tom’s grasp.
On multiple instances, they’ve displayed genuine friendship and concern for each other’s safety. In the cartoons ‘Busy Buddies’ and ‘Tot Watchers’, Tom and Jerry often set aside their rivalry to work together towards a common goal. For example, when a baby manages to evade a careless babysitter, it’s Tom and Jerry who chase after the infant, working together to ensure its safety. Remarkably, even though they frequently engage in hostile acts, they have consistently saved each other’s lives whenever either was truly in peril.
