3 years later, Elden Ring is getting two new starting classes with the Nintendo Switch 2’s Tarnished Edition

According to confirmation from FromSoftware, the special Tarnished edition of Elden Ring on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will introduce two fresh character classes for players to embark on a new adventure with, approximately three years following the game’s initial release.

The Nintendo Switch 2 broadcast helped solidify the new Nintendo system’s status as a dominant host for third-party developers, as hits like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Street Fighter 6 were unveiled to be playable on the portable console.

Nintendo chose to create a strong impression with the initial third-party game displayed: Elden Ring from FromSoftware. Although this massive RPG has already sold 30 million copies elsewhere, the announcement that you can play it in the bathtub on Switch 2 was an exhilarating way to begin the event.

In the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, we’re receiving Elden Ring along with its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, plus additional DLC featuring new weapons, armor, and Torrent cosmetics. Surprisingly, there are more fresh updates for Elden Ring on Switch, as well!

At the “FromSoftware Games Event Spring 2025”, as reported by NintendoLife through Famitsu, the developer unveiled some of their latest projects.

In simpler terms, the characters known as “Knight of Ides” and “Heavy Knight” are set to appear in the Nintendo Switch 2 version, while other platforms will receive these new additions through a simultaneous update.

The details provided on the two freshly introduced classes, particularly their statistics, are scant. However, considering the Heavy Knight’s name and the image that accompanies it depicting a large, robust figure armed with a massive bastard sword, one can surmise that strength and vitality are likely abundant traits for this class.

Although the Knight of Ides currently appears quite conventional as a knight, I’m hoping for a more substantial character with magical sword-wielding abilities to kick things off.
