Director Danny Boyle is set to deliver a novel perspective on the zombie genre with his upcoming movie titled “28 Years Later,” which serves as a sequel to “28 Days Later.” In an interview with Empire magazine, Boyle hinted that this film will delve into the distinctive effects of a zombie epidemic confined within the United Kingdom.
In my own words, I’d express it as follows: “I presented a unique take on things, focusing on the rich experiences and lessons that 28 years can provide. This film offers a captivating new angle to fans of the series, by exploring the long-term impacts if the infection were contained within Britain.
Initial sneak peek of the 28 Years Later movie left fans buzzing, as some thought they recognized lead actor Cillian Murphy portraying a zombie. Upon closer inspection though, it was extra actor Angus Neill who appeared in that role instead.
Boyle originally disregarded the similarity comments. He confessed, “I showed my girlfriend the trailer, and she remarked, ‘They’ll think it’s Cillian.’ I replied, ‘You’re joking.’ I didn’t pay attention.” However, he admitted to having a change of heart, saying, “I’ve had my share of humble pie since then.
Contrary to some misunderstandings about the trailer, Murphy will not be featured in the upcoming sequel. However, he continues to be associated with the production. Producer Andrew MacDonald expressed optimism about Murphy potentially participating in future editions of this series.
According to MacDonald, both parties expressed a desire for his involvement. However, he wasn’t part of the initial movie. Yet, there’s hope that we might see ‘Jim’ in one or more of the upcoming films. Currently, Murphy is serving as an executive producer for the trilogy.
28 Years Afterward features Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, and Jack O’Connell in its cast. This is the initial installment of a three-part series, with Nia DaCosta set to helm the second film, titled 28 Years Afterward: The Bone Temple. The movie is slated for release on June 20, 2025.
