28 Years Later Box Office Surges, But Fans Call It a Major Letdown Compared to Critics

28 Years Later has been released, and the audience’s feedback is pouring in, but it appears that it’s not as warm as the critical responses.

Currently, the Rotten Tomatoes rating given by critics is a whopping 91%, reaching an impressive peak of 96% at some point.

The fan score, however, is much lower, with a 68% Rotten Tomatoes Score.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but notice some intriguing differences in the critical reception between the original “28 Days Later” and its sequel, “28 Weeks Later”. The first installment boasts Rotten Tomatoes scores of 87% and 85%, while the second one sits at 73% and 66%. It’s fascinating to see how opinions can shift between films in a series.

Similarly, it appears that PostTrak viewers have rated the movie “28 Years Later” a modest 3 stars, with approximately 54% indicating they would definitely recommend it. Interestingly, the majority of the audience is male (60%), while females make up 40%.

Over at IMDb, the rating is a 7.3. The first movie has a 7.5, and the sequel a 6.9.

Box office report

28 Years Later earned a solid $5.8 million during its Thursday previews, but it’s yet to be determined how the movie will perform overall at the box office. This is because the success depends on whether the general fanbase continues to attend screenings over the weekend, or if the preview audience was primarily dedicated fans who attended early.

On this occasion, the figure outperformed the Thursday night previews of both “Final Destination 5” ($5.5M) and “Sinners” ($4.7M). These movies initially grossed $51.6M and $48M respectively in their openings.

What are fans saying?

From the feedback of the fans, it appears their opinions align with mine, as we both find that the movie titled “28 Years Later” is quite impressive during its initial hour, but unfortunately, it seems to lose steam afterwards.

I also break things down further regarding what went wrong.

At the start of the film, it felt similar to “28 Days Later” from two decades back, a movie I enjoyed. But the protagonist’s puzzling choices to advance to subsequent stages left me struggling to empathize and found them unappealing.

Initially, this film was as intense as the others, but later it took a bizarre turn. While it managed to hold my interest, it certainly wasn’t the expected continuation.

garbage, just was confusing in the end.. what the hell..

Among the three movies, this one was the least compelling. It seemed to blend an excessive amount of fantastical storytelling with real-life events, which is different from how the first two were structured. The conclusion left me feeling underwhelmed, and I couldn’t help but wonder if that was the best direction for the plot. Despite my reservations about the ending, I would still be interested in watching a fourth film.

Initially, the preview seemed more engaging than the actual film. The first half-hour was captivating, but after that, it felt as though three separate screenplays were being stitched together. The mood of the movie also underwent a significant shift. It’s astonishing how a film that had such high expectations fell short by a considerable degree…

Initially, I was thrilled at the prospect of watching how events unfolded during the early stages of an outbreak and transitioned into its subsequent aftermath. However, the movie, titled “28 years later,” turned out to be a significant disappointment overall.
