26th Developer Notes: December Update News

As a long-time player of this captivating game, I’ve seen it grow and evolve over time, much like the characters we all love. The recent updates have been particularly noteworthy, addressing many concerns that players have voiced.

Hello. This is BrownDust2 PD Jun-hee Lee.

I would like to address the skill cutscene issue before entering the Developer Notes.

As a fellow gamer, I get where you’re coming from about the subpar quality of Eleaneer’s skill cutscenes in Piercing Magic Bow. I sincerely regret that we haven’t been able to deliver the high-quality experience you deserve in this aspect. We appreciate your feedback and will strive to improve it going forward.

Regrettably, I need to be honest that we were hurried in revising the current skill cutscenes as swiftly as possible. Yet, our situation should not serve as an explanation for any delay. Once more, I deeply apologize to those players who have been eagerly anticipating the 1.5-Year Anniversary update.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve been working closely with our artists and directors to refine some of the cutscenes that sparked feedback from fellow enthusiasts like you.

As a devoted fan of Brown Dust 2, I can’t emphasize enough how much I appreciate the impact that skill cutscenes have on your gaming experience. Rest assured, we put a tremendous amount of effort into every detail when it comes to crafting these scenes. From the smoothness of motion and effects, to the intricacies of body shapes and balance, and the quality of illustrations – we strive for perfection in each and every aspect.

Now, let’s move on to the update.

I’ll fill you in on the specifics of the upcoming changes before our 1.5-Year Anniversary, as well as some exciting plans we have for that day. Additionally, I’ll provide the findings from our collaboration event survey and other recent updates.

[Rerun] “Nightmare Winter” Event Pack (December 5th)

To start off, the “Nightmare Winter” Event Pack, which was presented during our mid-winter anniversary celebration last year, is set to make a comeback.

Explore a seemingly tranquil metropolis, where beneath its serene exterior lies a tyrannical leader pulling the strings. This unseen figure maintains order and obedience, punishing those who dare defy their rule. But amidst this oppressive regime, there are rebels rallying together to challenge the injustice. Secrets buried deep are unearthed, and courage blossoms through the selfless acts of ordinary citizens. We invite you to immerse yourself in this inspiring tale that unfolds against the backdrop of a wintry city.

Characters in Nightmare Winter

Nightmare Bunny Eclipse Masquerade Celia Anti-Dystopia Diana Stray Cat Rou

Besides Nightmare Bunny Eclipse and Masquerade Celia, which were exclusive costumes for the game’s Half Anniversary event,

There is something I would like to add to the story of Nightmare Winter.
The Character Packs and Event Packs in Brown Dust 2 are based on a parallel universe concept.
Some packs share the same universe, while others play out in different worlds.
In the “Click! Click! Summer” season event updated in the summer of 2024, Eclipse and Morpeah
appeared as actresses, starring in a movie named “Nightmare Winter.”
This led to many users speculating that the Nightmare Winter Pack may be the plot of the movie.
I would like to clarify that Nightmare Winter and Click! Click! Summer are based on two different worlds,
and that the costume theme in the Summer Pack is a parody-like adaptation of the Nightmare Winter concept.
In other words, Nightmare Winter’s story is a setting that actually exists within the pack.
From now on, we will provide a clearer description of the parallel universe in each pack to ensure you can enjoy the story without any inconvenience.

[Rerun] Seasonal Event “Marry Me!” (November 21st)

The popular seasonal event, “Say ‘I Do’ Again,” is set for re-release. You’ll have another chance to encounter Refithea, all dressed up in a charming wedding gown once more.

A fresh tale emerges in the realm of fairy tales, home to the fifth set of characters. In “Marry Me,” a malevolent character from this magical land abducts multiple princesses with the intention of making one his bride.
Join Refithea on her daring journey as she strives to be the chosen bride and save these captive princesses.

In the gaming world, I’m back as Blue Beard, the Darkness-wielding Fiend Hunter in Marry Me. Yep, you heard it right! This fiendish foe is making a comeback. Although I’ve always been associated with the Darkness element, I’ll keep my ominous aura for this return too, to ensure the current balance in Fiend Hunter properties. But don’t worry, there’s some exciting twists!

[Rerun] Seasonal Event “Fireworks Memories” (December 5th)

The epilogue of the Nightmare Winter expansion, titled “Fireworks Memories,” will be made available again.

Following that harrowing day, reminiscent of a nightmare, I found something priceless and uniquely mine.

In the game Fireworks Memories, the boss character E.O.N, who goes by the title Fiend Hunter, is set for an attribute change from Light to Water. Additionally, this boss will occasionally attack the player’s character, but interestingly, it also grants a beneficial effect each turn.

Next, we have details regarding the pickup for November and December.

On December 17th (Tuesday), we’ll unveil the updated versions of our new pickups during our 1.5-year Anniversary livestream celebration. As a special tribute for our 1.5-year interaction content update, New Employee Nebris’ pickup period will be prolonged by an additional week. This adjustment in the update schedule may lead to some changes in the pickup schedules.

Queen of Signatures Michaela New Hire Nebris Wind Dancer Venaka

Michaela (Queen of Signatures): With a Light-based magical damage per second role, she uses abilities that consume additional SP but deliver substantial damage in accordance with her penalty.

* Remark about Fiend Hunter and costume distribution policy
Fiend Hunter consists of a preparation phase and a hunting phase.
Players have expressed concerns that they experience high pressure to devise strategies quickly when new costumes are introduced during the hunting phase, and we share this sentiment.
Since costume choices significantly influence the success in Fiend Hunter, we will distribute the costumes during the preparation phase moving forward to give you ample time for practice before the actual hunt.

Moving forward, our game development team and I have decided to enhance the gameplay experience by providing a broader range of strategic options for players. This includes exploring ways to ensure a balanced game with the right level of challenge, while still preserving the existing difficulty. We will also consider allowing more freedom in costume choices within the game.

The Tower of Salvation will officially begin its operation starting from November 21st, following a series of five preliminary seasons.

Seasonal Goal Score Upgrade: Starting with the new season, our goal score will rise from 2 billion to a staggering 15 billion. Keep in mind that this target score may vary each season, taking into account factors such as Tower of Salvation engagement levels, participation rates, and the duration of the preceding season before it is set.

As we transition into the official gaming season, I’m pumped to share some exciting updates about the rewards! Here’s a sneak peek:

Enhancements: Items with minimal usage will receive a boost.

We trust you’ll have a great time during the official season of the Tower of Salvation! Rest assured, we’re all ears for your feedback and are committed to enhancing our content based on your suggestions.

Updates for Enhancing Guild Raids (December 5th):

On December 5th, the Raid Boss known as Rucersingha, the Darkness Ruler, offers substantial buffs but intensifies attack difficulty when multiple characters attempt to benefit from them. To achieve optimal results, focus on arranging a limited number of characters who can make use of the boss’s buff strategically.

Development Team’s Response to Players’ Key Suggestions Regarding Gameplay

We’ve gotten a collection of improvement ideas from more than 10 top guilds globally, which they sent to us via our customer service department. Instead of just addressing these suggestions through our customer service channel like usual inquiries, we thought it would be beneficial to include the development team’s perspective and guidance with the response. Below, you’ll find the items the development team has reviewed and communicated through Developer Notes. The suggestions have been kept as close to their original form as possible to minimize any confusion, while making some parts clearer by condensing them slightly.

Suggestions Regarding Guild/Guild Raid
[Suggestion] A real-time leaderboard that displays the top 10 guilds (or top 0.1%) every season would be nice. I would also like to see an option to check the records from the previous season, just like in other game modes.
[Suggestion] The guild emblem effect feels somewhat plain. I suggest that you change it to a frame-like shape.
[Suggestion] Displaying the top 3 guilds’ emblems instead of the trophies on the second floor in Chapter 3 Mercenary Guild would be a great way to recognize the guilds’ achievements visually.
[Suggestion] I’d like to ask for new achievements and titles based on guild rankings, such as becoming the first to reach a record or reaching the top 0.1% multiple times.
[Response] The suggestions above were met with a positive reaction by the development team. We will evaluate them thoroughly and implement them whenever possible.

For those players who strive for the highest echelons of Fiend Hunter, it’s been suggested that the prizes could be enhanced to better reward their dedication. Offering Refining Crystals as an end-of-season reward for these rankings would serve as a significant motivator for our loyal players. While we understand and appreciate the desire for increased rewards in competitive content, we are cautious about fostering overly intense competition. As a result, we’ve chosen to postpone this matter for further consideration.

To ensure a smooth and fair gaming experience for all, it’s crucial that we perform extensive pre-release tests on Fiend Hunter updates. Playing with bugs in the game can negatively impact user enjoyment and compromise the competitive atmosphere. We truly regret any inconvenience caused by the existing bugs and are dedicated to enhancing our testing procedures for a more seamless gaming experience.

In light of recent feedback about renting friends’ characters following the update in our Guild Raid feature, I wanted to clarify that we are currently not planning on implementing a character rental system within Fiend Hunter or PvP. Preserving the fairness and individual progress in these single-player competitive modes is a top priority for us, ensuring each player’s efforts are both rewarding and balanced.

Instead of featuring a leaderboard showcasing top performers during Last Night with enhanced rewards, we’ve decided not to pursue that idea at present. This is because Last Night isn’t primarily designed for intense competition and the scores above 100 million are mainly intended as challenges. The inclusion of Refining Powder as a reward might encourage more competitive play, but it doesn’t align well with the current focus of Last Night content.

We’re contemplating the idea of introducing honors like achievements and titles for players based on specific damage thresholds, as this will help acknowledge their impressive accomplishments.

Hey there fellow gamer! I’ve been feeling the burn while trying to stockpile Refining Powder for crafting high-rank gear. You know, the whole process – gather materials, craft gear, upgrade it, dismantle it for powder… It gets repetitive and time-consuming, not to mention the strain on the server!

Our final thoughts revolve around the importance of fostering an engaging and rewarding gaming environment for our players. While adjustments to current rewards may not be immediate, we’re excited about introducing leaderboards, achievements, and titles as recognition for player dedication. These additions will serve to highlight and appreciate player enthusiasm, ultimately elevating the gaming experience.

Next, we have a part of the next collaboration and survey results many of you may want to know.
The entire result will be released through a separate post later.

What do you think about the number of pickup costumes in the collaboration event?
Overall 1st: 3
Comment: The majority of users in Korea answered “2,” while expressing their concern about the increase in time-limited costumes due to the nature of collaboration events.

Which approach do you find more appealing when it comes to assigning collaboration characters?

How frequently would you ideally collaborate with other works be optimal?

Which collaborative character’s skill demonstrations did you find enjoyable? (Check all that apply)

Share your thoughts on the invasion defense of the second Guild Raid.

Share your thoughts on the boss defense in the second Guild Raid.

In the latest surveys on Invasion Defense and Boss Defense, there were minor enhancements observed, marked by an uptick in “Satisfied” responses and a decline in those who haven’t played yet, compared to the initial Guild Raid survey. Yet, we recognize that there is still room for improvement, as the satisfaction level hasn’t surpassed 50%, and the number of people selecting “Not fun” hasn’t decreased. Furthermore, we have more advancements in store. We will strive to make further improvements for a higher satisfaction rate.

Over the following questions, we will share the collective views of gamers worldwide.

A large number of players expressed great delight about the policy for giving away +5 upgrades.

Most responses mirrored the suggestions for change from our initial questionnaire. Given their recurring nature, we’ll give them more consideration and strive to make further enhancements.

That is it for today.

As we approach our 1.5-year milestone, we’re busy working on both external adjustments and in-game enhancements to celebrate the occasion. We can’t wait to share these updates with you, and we’ll start unveiling them starting next week, so make sure to keep an eye on us!

With that, we will wrap up today’s notes with a gift.
