Throughout the history of anime, various characters have appeared on the screens, some of which represent certain social and cultural movements. And while demon girls aren’t really a subculture in its own right, the symbolism is very important for a lot of anime series. Demon girls are often featured in various anime series, and in this article, we are going to bring you a ranked list of the 25 best demon girl anime characters.
25. Yuuko Ichihara
Franchise: xxxHOLiC
A striking and enchanting sorceress, capable of granting wishes under specific conditions. It was she who created both Mokonas and Clow Lead, to facilitate the inter-dimensional journeys of Shaolan and Sakura. She’s also responsible for designing the wish emporium where Kimihiro is employed. As the story unfolds in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHOLiC, we discover that she plays a pivotal role in setting off all the events. Her emblem is the butterfly.
24. Eto Yoshimura

Franchise: Tokyo Ghoul
Born from the marriage between the ghoul Kuzen Yoshimura and a human named Ukina, who was an investigative journalist, Eto was secretly nurtured by Noro in the 24th arrondissement to avoid detection by the “V” organization. As the founder of Aogiri Tree, Eto rules covertly, while Tatara holds the main position. This one-eyed ghoul known as Eto was born naturally.
From head to toe, she’s wrapped in bandages; she dons a purple, sleeveless tunic with floppy ear-like attachments on the hood. At present, she’s eluding public gaze, known as Sen Takatsuki – a renowned horror novelist admired by Ken Kaneki, Hinami Fueguchi, and Tsukiyama. As Sen Takatsuki, she presents an ordinary young woman demeanor, characterized by her green-dyed tresses.
(Note: I’ve used “eluding” to convey the idea of hiding from public view while still acknowledging that she is known and recognized. Also, “recognizable by” was used instead of “can be identified by” for a smoother flow.)
This character, Etou, derives great delight from inflicting pain on her adversaries or fellow ghouls, often using them as instruments of chaos.
23. Melascula
Franchise: The Seven Deadly Sins
The woman, known as the embodiment of Faith and an original member of the clan, was sealed before the act of betrayal by Meliodas. Her unique skill lies in casting various dark spells, with a particular ability to resurrect any soul that has perished, drawing power from the repentance of the deceased.
Appearance-wise, she resembles a young girl, yet there’s an unsettling darkness that seems to envelop her. In reality, however, she transforms into a diminutive viper as her magical energy dissipates.
In a past era, she took part in the initial sacred conflict, which saw her being psychologically controlled by Gowther to liberate her creator from the underworld’s imprisonment. Later on, she, along with her comrades, was confined for over three thousand years by the divine clan, following the conclusion of that war.
22. Clare
Franchise: Claymore
In this narrative, Claire serves as our main character. As a young girl, she tragically experienced the loss of her entire family at the hands of a Yoma, who subsequently forced her to accompany him on his travels, using it as a ruse. Throughout their journey together, the monster repeatedly threatened and abused Claire, ultimately causing her to lose her ability to speak. However, it was Teresa’s intervention that rescued Claire from the horrific cycle of violence she found herself in.
After that, she steadfastly refused to part ways with the warrior, whom she eventually grew fond of. Following Teresa’s demise, the one person who had shown her kindness after the annihilation of her family, she swore revenge against Priscilla. Consequently, she became the first member in the Organization’s history to willingly transform into a Claymore.
Apart from her merely being satisfied with her, she also requested that another be given “Teresa’s essence within her form”. In truth, Claire is unique among all warriors as she received the infusion of a Claymore warrior rather than a Yoma. The Organization granted her wish due to curiosity about the outcome, but the experiment did not continue further. It was found that the girl possessed less strength compared to the typical warrior.
Initially in this tale, she is identified as number 47, the lowest rank in the system, making her the most vulnerable among all. Over the course of the narrative, she’ll tragically lose her right arm at the hands of Ophelia. However, fate intervenes when Irene steps in, offering her the last remaining arm to regain her ability to wield the “Lightning Sword” technique.
21. Sunako Kirishiki
Franchise: Shiki
13-year-old Sunako Kirishiki and her family relocated to a mansion perched on a hill, known as Kanemasa. Rumors claim that she has a unique genetic condition, SLE, compelling her to avoid sunlight, living indoors during the day and venturing out only at night. In truth, Sunako serves as the central vampire in the village, orchestrating attacks on its residents with an aim to transform the entire community into nocturnal beings like herself.
1) Sunako, along with her loved ones, adores the essays and novels penned by Seishin Muroi. However, Sunako prefers not to be referred to as “Sunako-chan”. Raised in a prosperous household without financial concerns, her life took an unexpected turn when her father brought in a specific acquaintance who ultimately bit her. Tragically, her parents neglected her and confined her to an old storage facility. Yet, they continued to provide her with sustenance daily.
Later on, Sunako managed to break free from the warehouse. Upon hearing that the Kirishiki family had relocated, she set out to locate them. For an extended period, she persistently searched for them but was ultimately unsuccessful in finding them. Among the vampire community, there are whispers about Sunako’s sternness and the severity of her punishments, some even leading to capital punishment. Following the Sotoba massacre, she was rescued by Seishin and whisked away from the village.
20. Shiro
Franchise: Deadman Wonderland
Shiro, an enigmatic girl with albinism, is the adopted daughter of Hagire Rinichirō that Ganta encounters upon entering the prison. Unlike the typical inmates who are dressed in prisoner attire, Shiro, also known as Ella, sports a snug ensemble adorned with intricate red patterns instead. She doesn’t have an assigned number and is not officially registered within the prison system. Shiro chooses to walk barefoot and wears gloves on her hands.
She’s extraordinarily fit and exhibits an almost supernatural strength. Despite their similar age, Shiro communicates in a juvenile manner, using broken sentences, and possesses a naive and unsophisticated demeanor. She deeply cares for Ganta and will go to great extremes to safeguard him. This affection stems from the fact that Ganta was Shiro’s only friend during her younger years, an era that Ganta cannot recall.
Though residing within the confines of Deadman Wonderland, Shiro appears to navigate its labyrinthine prison with remarkable fluidity, having been a long-term resident and masterfully utilizing hidden passageways. With an uncanny knack for appearing seemingly out of thin air, it’s as if she has a sixth sense about the prison’s secret openings. In the manga, Shiro reveals her deep feelings for Ganta.
Shiro contracted a perplexing virus, granting her unique talents, which sparked interest from Ganta’s mother, Sorae Igarashi. Over the ensuing years, Shiro endured cruel experiments in an attempt to induce her body and the virus within her to transform into the first Deadman, resulting in unimaginable suffering.
In my own words, experiencing such tormenting treatment transformed Shiro into a chilling individual with a homicidal and maniacal disposition, which I’ve come to know as “Wretched Egg”. Fascinatingly, this enigmatic figure is referred to as the “Red Man” by me because of his striking attire reminiscent of my beloved character, Aceman.
19. Himiko Toga

Appears in: My Hero Academia
A troubled and malicious teenage girl, influenced by the character Stain, frequently imagines Midoriya in distress due to her growing romantic feelings for him.
Originally hailing from an affluent family, she was once a girl. However, a strange fascination with blood, which led her to murder a loved one and drink their blood for pleasure, caused her to abandon her home and face social ostracism. Eventually, she found refuge within the Union.
18. Merlin
Appears in: The Seven Deadly Sins
As a cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: I am a captivating sorceress, known for my striking appearance and powerful magic. In Britain, I hold a formidable status among sorceresses, having been separated from my comrades for a decade. Now, I reside in Camelot, where I’ve been guarding the young King Arthur, growing fond of him over time. My magical prowess is such that I can sustain my spells indefinitely, until I choose to break them – a feat that typically requires immense magical energy. Symbolically, I bear the image of the boar on my neck, representing the sin of Throat.
17. Hannah Annafellow
Franchise: Black Butler
As a devoted cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: In the role of Hannah, the maid within the Trancy household, there lies a secret – I am not just human, but a demon wielding the sword Laevateinn. My loyalty towards Alois Trancy is unwavering, yet he subjects me to cruel treatment, both physically and mentally. This abuse was sadly common during those times, and I, Hannah, endured it silently. However, as the story unfolds in the anime, a chilling revelation emerges: I had entered into a pact with Luka, Alois’s supposed brother, many years ago. His wish? For Alois, the fulfillment of his dark dream – the massacre of villagers surrounding us.
Hannah expresses that because she adores Luka, this affection extends to Alois as well, which could be one factor leading her to tolerate Alois’ mistreatment without utilizing her powers. Later, after Alois understands that both Hannah and the soul within her, Luka, are the only ones who can offer him love, she enters into a new agreement with him.
16. Shiki Ryōgi
Franchise: The Garden of Sinners
Shiki Ryōgi serves as our principal character. Deep within her lies an unconscious yearning to take lives. The only individual who holds a special place in Shiki’s life is her ex-classmate, Mikiya Kokutō. During her school days, two distinct personalities coexisted within Shiki – the delicate “Shiki” and the robust “SHIKI”. These personas clashed internally, leading to the persistent suppression of the masculine side, which Shiki perceived as insignificant. Throughout her life, she was acquainted only with murder.
She has the unique ability to “see the impending demise” of any object or being. Lines and dots represent this impending death, and a mark made along these lines results in the permanent disappearance of the entity’s core.
15. Rize Kamishiro
Franchise: Tokyo Ghoul
Rize Kamishiro is a reptilian ghoul, often referred to as “The Glutton” due to her voracious eating habits. Originally from the 11th ward, she relocated to the 20th six months prior to her demise. At the outset of the series, she assaults Ken Kaneki, a smitten student, manipulating him to facilitate her consumption. In the course of this attack, a shower of beams strikes and ends her life.
Ken Kaneki receives transplanted organs that alter him into a hybrid being, half-human, half-ghoul. Rize Kamishiro is an influential, strong, and especially cruel ghoul who enjoys luring victims with her charm and looking down on others.
14. Beatrice
Franchise: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
As a captivated cinematic connoisseur, I find myself enthralled by “The Enchantress of Gold and Eternity,” a tale that spins an intricate web around the elusive Beatrice – a witch believed to have traversed over millennia. She is said to materialize in a radiant swarm of golden butterflies, a sight as mesmerizing as it is enigmatic. Her powers, legend has it, extend to summoning the 72 demons detailed within the Ars Goetia of the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis, these ethereal beings serving her bidding.
Rumors abound that mortals can invoke this ancient sorceress, offering a token of compensation in exchange for their heart’s desire. However, Beatrice’s journey took a drastic turn when she encountered Kinzo, who demanded as tribute the equivalent of 10 metric tons of gold. Overwhelmed and powerless, she found herself stranded on Rokkenjima Island, her once boundless powers diminished to mere whispers.
13. Saiko Yonebayashi

Franchise: Tokyo Ghoul
Squad member Saiko Yonebayashi, hailing from the Third Class CCG, belongs to the Quinques team. Known for her infectious cheerfulness, she serves as an unofficial mascot for the group. In her downtime and during mission hours, you’ll often find her engrossed in video games or manga. Following Uriah’s promotion and Sasaki’s departure, she stepped up to lead the squad as a mentor.
12. Lust
Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist
In this narrative, a 250-year-old character, known for her sinful lust, serves as one of the principal figures. She frequently collaborates with Envy and Gluttony, issuing commands and usually moving in tandem with the latter. Her initial strategies include instigating Lior’s rebellion using Envy, capturing Tim Marcoh as a hostage, and pursuing Barry the Butcher. At first sight, she seems lewd, but she also excels at assuming different roles, such as adopting the persona of Solaris to allure Havoc. However, her strategies often have loopholes and she tends to overestimate her adversaries’ weaknesses.
11. Ai Enma

Franchise: Jigoku Shojo
The central figure in the series is a stunning young girl, characterized by long, slim black hair, “mochi” complexion (smooth and slightly pale), and vibrant red eyes. She resides in an eternally twilit realm alongside her grandmother. On her computer, she frequently receives demands for revenge. While she typically dons a black seifuku, or traditional sailor school uniform, she adorns a black kimono embellished with flowers when fulfilling her contracts.
10. Kurumi Tokisaki
Appears in: Date A Live
In essence, Kurumi is the third entity that Shido encounters. Upon first impression, she appears as a strikingly beautiful young girl, with an allure that’s captivating and endearing. However, beneath this facade lies a deeply disturbed individual, exhibiting sadistic tendencies and a twisted psyche, earning her the title of “the most evil” spirit according to Shido. Her code name reflects these characteristics: Nightmare.
She seems indestructible because she can repeatedly return to earlier moments in time, effectively regenerating whenever she chooses. She’s been killed multiple times and is responsible for a substantial number of deaths (Mana estimates that she has killed more than 10,000 individuals). Her power allows her to create multiple versions of herself from different points in the past.
9. Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck

Franchise: Bleach
Nelliel, often referred to as Nell, was once the Third Espada, an old warrior in the series. Originally, she belonged to the Adjuchas rank. Her mask sits atop her forehead and bears a noticeable fracture. Her hair is green, and her eyes are a warm brown. Upon her initial introduction, she presents as a young child and develops a bond with Ichigo, whom she affectionately calls “Itsugo”.
To clarify, Nell is actually quite young and has vivid green hair. She also has ample breasts and distinctive red marks on her cheekbones. Unlike other Hollows who are often portrayed as cruel and menacing, Nell and her companions stand out by exhibiting loyalty, empathy, and a somewhat juvenile demeanor. They tend to behave in a playful manner more often than not.
Originally, she held the position of the Third Espada. Approximately two years prior, a joint attack by Nnoitra (then the Eighth Espada) and Szayelaporro Grantz took place. During this attack, Szayelaporro broke her mask, causing her to assume her present form and inflicting injury upon her. As a result of these events, she was expelled from Las Noches along with her subordinates, Pesche Gatiche and Dondochakka Willson, whom she considers as her brothers.
8. Zero Two
Franchise: DARLING in the FRANXX
A cryptic young lady, sporting two fiery horns and a blend of human and howler characteristics, is a distinguished pilot within APE’s special forces. Known as the “partner killer,” she exudes an air of mystery, impulsiveness, and playful mischief. Upon first encountering Hiro, she immediately senses his uniqueness compared to her past partners. Her formidable power requires great caution, as it has proved fatal for many who have come into prolonged contact with it during combat.
7. Rias Gremory
Franchise: High School DxD
She is known as the high school’s version of Madonna, Issei’s romantic partner and mistress, who is adored by many without reservation. In reality, she is Princess Crimson-Haired Ruin, an heiress to one of the strongest demon dynasties, the Gremory family.
Officially, she’s enrolled in high school through a Japan-Scandinavia student exchange program. However, she secretly holds the position as president of an occult research club, acting as a sort of boss for supernatural entities that follow her commands. In terms of chess, she is equivalent to the “King” piece, leading and directing the other pieces under her control, including Issei.
She’s nearly unbeatable, this remarkable heroine, who swiftly grasps the immense power hidden within Issei and as a result, grows quite intrigued by him. Interestingly, his brother turns out to be one of the Demon Kings, known as Lord Sirzerch.
They both have the capacity to demolish anything, an amazing talent for reducing targets to dust. After discovering him deceased, killed by a fallen angel and in possession of a rare Sacred Artifact, she reanimates Issei as her servant.
6. Tōka Kirishima

Franchise: Tokyo Ghoul
Character Profile: Tōka Kirishima
Tōka Kirishima is identified as a ghoul and was previously employed as a waitress at the Antiquity. In battle, she dons a mask that resembles a white rabbit’s head, earning her the moniker “Rabbit.” As the narrative unfolds, we find Tōka in her third year of high school attending Kiyomi High School.
With Hinami Fueguchi’s assistance, it was she who ended the life of Inspector Kureo Mado. Following the 11th arrondissement battle and Ken Kaneki’s departure from Antiquity, she found solace in her studies, gradually discovering her affection for the boy who had transformed into a one-eyed ghoul.
5. Eri
Franchise: My Hero Academia
Eri’s special ability allows her to revert the bodily condition of a living being to an earlier state, thereby revitalizing them, healing injuries, and undoing physical transformations. Remarkably, it has demonstrated the power to roll back a person’s body to a point before their existence began.
The power of their unique ability stems from the horn on top of her head, with the size of the horn influencing the magnitude of their power. This is a build-up type of ability, which means that the energy it releases needs to accumulate over time before it can be utilized. Interestingly, due to a change in Eri’s own Quirk within her body, her blood has the capacity to disrupt other people’s abilities by reversing their activation process prior to the manifestation of their Quirk Phenomenon.
4. Ram

Franchise: Re:Zero
A pink-haired, pink-eyed female oni character, older sibling to Rem, assists them both as a servant in Roswaal’s mansion. Despite her role, she isn’t quite as skilled or eager at her tasks compared to her sister. Additionally, she tends to be more aloof and reserved when compared to the industrious and affable Rem.
Although their clan forbade twin sisters, extraordinary circumstances spared these two. From a young age, Ram’s talents were evident, marking him as a child prodigy. Unfortunately, one sister lost her powers when her horn perished during an assault by the Cult of the Witch, which left her weak and heavily dependent on her younger sibling.
3. Lucy

Franchise: Elfen Lied
17-year-old Kaede/Lucy/Nyu, with her striking dark pink hair and eyes, is a slender diclonius who spent her early years in an orphanage after being abandoned at birth. Unlike other members of her species, she did not exhibit any violent tendencies during this period of her life.
However, following numerous traumatic experiences during her youth, a dark and violent side emerged within her. This transformation led to her becoming ruthless and heartless. Subsequently, she was apprehended and confined in research centers situated along the coastal region of Kamakura.
In the passage of time, she eventually found freedom, yet while fleeing, she sustained a head wound that led to her developing a new identity known as Nyu. Nyu is characterized by her childlike demeanor, innocence, gentleness, and lack of harmfulness. Initially, she was unable to speak anything beyond “Nyu”, but over time she learned language and even managed to say Kōta’s name.
2. Rem

Franchise: Re:Zero
In the captivating world of Gusukuhime, I admire a character who mirrors the enigmatic oni from Japanese folklore, boasting vibrant blue hair and eyes. She’s none other than Ram’s younger twin sister, gracefully serving alongside her sibling at Roswaal Manor. Unlike Ram, who appears less adept and enthusiastic in her tasks, this sister excels, executing her chores flawlessly and whipping up delectable dishes with an artistry that leaves a lasting impression.
She, too, possesses a gentler and more approachable demeanor compared to the former one. In contrast to her older counterpart, she still retains her horn, preserving all her abilities.
1. Nezuko Kamado
Franchise: Demon Slayer
Whenever Nezuko transformed into a demon, she showcased her unique talent of reducing her size spontaneously. This allowed her to conveniently fit inside compact containers like boxes or baskets, which helped her avoid sunlight exposure while she accompanied Tanjiro during daylight hours.
In addition to combat, Nezuko has the ability to transform into a more substantial form. Furthermore, she possesses the power to set her blood ablaze. The intensity of these flames is controllable by her, and remarkably, she can even mend the injuries inflicted by her own fiery attacks when needed.
Nevertheless, these flames are effective only against devilish arts such as Rui’s threads. Similarly, Nezuko’s flames have the ability to change Tanjiro’s Nichirin Blade from black to red, mirroring Yoriichi Tsugikuni who did the same before battle to boost his blade’s potency against devils. Moreover, it enhances Tanjiro’s skill in performing the Fire God’s Dance.
