As a long-time fan of Call of Duty, I must say that Advanced Warfare was a game that left a lasting impression on me. The futuristic setting and exosuits were certainly a departure from the usual realistic shooter, but it added an exciting new dimension to the franchise.
2014 trailers for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sparked a quick and mixed response, as veterans of the series raised concerns that the game was veering too far into the realm of sci-fi with its exosuits, fearing it was attempting to resemble the more fantastical Halo series instead of maintaining the franchise’s traditional realistic shooter feel.
In essence, when it comes to games, a tale as gripping as a small band of courageous soldiers overthrowing an empire becomes particularly immersive, especially since this game, Advanced Warfare, is meticulously constructed using both the military and industrial aspects of a notorious facility. Released on November 3, 2014, it’s worth revisiting even after ten years, despite the fact that its antagonist might make such replay uncomfortable.
Actor Kevin Spacey skillfully balances his performance, perfectly portraying Atlas Corporation President Jonathan Irons by delivering an appropriate amount of dramatic flair to the scenes.
For over a hundred years, America has attempted to instill democracy in various countries, but unfortunately, it hasn’t succeeded even once,” Irons remarks in the game’s trailer. He points out that establishing a democratic system isn’t as straightforward as launching some attacks, toppling a dictator, and imposing America’s idea of an ideal government on them.
One of the biggest and most valid criticisms of the COD franchise is that it serves as propaganda for the American military. Advanced Warfare deals with some of the questions surrounding the US’ role in policing in the world.
In 2014, securing Spacey for a video game villain role was a major coup. However, following accusations of sexual misconduct that led to his career’s downfall, there is now a desire among creators to disassociate from him.
The actor brought to life characters including House of Cards’ manipulative Frank Underwood and American Beauty’s Lester Burnham, who lusts after his daughter’s teenage friend. Jeez, Spacey’s entire career feels like one long phone call from inside the house, doesn’t it?
