A 12-year-old boy from West Yorkshire has died after attempting to copy a scene from the hit Netflix series Squid Game.
Sebastian Cizman, a resident of Glasshoughton, was discovered by a cousin at his home in June. He was found on the stairs with a sheet around his neck. Despite the quick response of paramedics, they couldn’t save him, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
I recently learned some touching details about Sebastian. Apparently, he was a real prankster, always joking around with his friends. He even had a habit of playfully pretending to pass out just to get a laugh – it sounds like he was a fun-loving guy who really enjoyed making people smile.

As a critic, I’ve covered plenty of dark themes, but this case is truly chilling. It appears the deceased shared an image from Squid Game – specifically, a scene depicting a fatal challenge – with someone on WhatsApp the very day he died. What’s even more disturbing is investigators discovered he’d recently searched online for information on how to survive choking by yourself. It paints a really unsettling picture, suggesting a deliberate attempt to recreate something he’d seen on screen, and a grim pre-planning of his own demise.
Sebastian was described by his family as a cheerful and popular boy who didn’t have any history of mental health problems. They had warned him about the dangers of online challenges and thought he understood the risks, but tragically, he still participated. Police investigations found no indication that he had been searching for dangerous content on TikTok.
Everyone is calling Sebastian’s death a terrible accident. It’s a sad example of how kids might copy things they see on television without realizing how dangerous they are. This highlights the need for parents, teachers, and media companies to be mindful of how violent or risky content can affect children.
