As a massive fan of these fierce heroines, I must say that each one embodies their zodiac signs perfectly!
Just like villains are a key part of horror, so are the main characters they are pursuing. And, when it comes to the genre and all of its subsets, no trope is more prevalent and enduring than the Final Girl. A term coined by Carol J. Clover in “Her Body, Himself: Gender in the Slasher Film” (1987), the Final Girl is the apple of a killer’s eye. She’s the ultimate survivor and audience surrogate who lives through the final showdown with the big bad.
She can be either the classic innocent girl who may require rescue or the fearless tough-guy character ready to confront harrowing scenarios and amass her own tally of victims. Regardless, the Final Girl is a defining figure in horror films. To honor her strength, we’ve chosen 12 popular survivors and matched them with their corresponding Zodiac sign that seems fitting for each one. (Just so you know, we also did this exercise for the horror villains!)
Remark: Indeed, we expanded the traditional boundaries of the Final Girl concept slightly by including remarkable female characters who endure in movies other than slasher films.
Nancy Thompson – Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
In the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, character Nancy Thompson demonstrates the tenacity, resolve, and drive typically associated with a Capricorn. When her friend Tina met an untimely end, Nancy sprang into action, delving deep to unravel the mysteries surrounding Freddy Krueger. Swiftly formulating a strategy to ensnare him, she displayed remarkable courage by confronting a killer in the real world, thus stripping him of his power.
In a later chapter of my life, I found myself mentoring young individuals, helping them harness their innate dream powers for a better future. Even on my final day, when fate claimed me, I managed to seize one last moment to strike Freddy Krueger with his own weapon. Truly, I was a boss in every sense of the word.
Selena – Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
The characteristics typically associated with the Aquarius zodiac, such as independence and logical thinking, are clearly evident in Selena, the intelligent female protagonist from the movie “28 Days Later.” In a United Kingdom overrun by zombies, she demonstrates her willingness to act decisively when faced with danger – as shown when she instantly kills Mike upon discovering his infected wound. Resourceful and practical, Selena shares with her new companion, Jim, a harsh overview of the brutal nature of their new world, setting guidelines for survival.
In this new world plagued by virus, I embrace its harsh reality without clinging to illusions of a cure. Instead, I let my fiery spirit navigate through this new normal. Yet, there are moments where my carefree and peculiar personality shines, like when I playfully explore an abandoned store filled with supplies. Although she may not be as renowned as Sidney Prescott or Laurie Strode, she certainly holds her ground among the legendary Final Girls in the realm of horror cinema.
Sidney Prescott – Pisces (February 19-March 20)
When it comes to the Final Girl Pantheon, Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott is certainly in this elite group. Her enduring saga in the Scream franchise continues to inspire Final Girl characterizations to this day. According to Google, Sidney’s birthday is supposedly March 14 which, if true, would make this Final Girl’s Zodiac sign a Pisces. And this actually fits her personality. In the midst of the ongoing chaotic violence in her life, Sidney often shows her empathetic side. She holds her killer brother Roman’s hand as he dies and works as a crisis counselor to help women in need. She’s fiercely loyal and protective of her very small inner circle and isn’t afraid to wear her ebbing emotions on her sleeve. Sidney’s also a creative who once had dreams of becoming an actress.
But that doesn’t mean Sidney is a pushover. She can flip the switch and allow her righteous frustration, cunning, and well-timed rage to come to the forefront to save herself and others. She will take an antagonist to task, both verbally and physically, and can flow with the punches (and stabs) unlike any other. We love an adaptable and delightfully headstrong Pisces queen who can be tough at the right time.
Julie James – Aries (March 21-April 19)
In simpler terms, the character Julie James from the movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” seems to embody the traits of an Aries. She stands out in her friend group for her directness, honesty, and courage. Her moral compass is disturbed when she suspects they’ve committed a hit-and-run on a summer night. Despite this burden, she remains determined to uncover the truth about the killer and protect those around her.
When she shouts “What’s keeping you?!” from the outside, it’s a bold challenge, a characteristic move of an impassioned Aries when facing opposition.
Laurie Strode – Taurus (April 20-May 21)
According to Google, the character Laurie Strode from Halloween is born on February 22, making her a Pisces. However, her tenacious and practical nature seems to align more with Taurus traits. This fearless Final Girl is incredibly intelligent, resourceful, and single-mindedly determined to put an end to Michael Myers once and for all. Even when faced with opposition from her own family who think she’s delusional, Laurie remains unwavering in her pursuit.
A Taurus person might meticulously transform her home into a deadly trap for an unmasked murderer, biding her time patiently over a span of 40 years to accomplish her ultimate objective. Laurie, however, may occasionally display intense emotions but maintains composure and resilience, as evident in her courageous encounter with Michael at her college in Halloween: H20. She is fiercely protective of the precious few good individuals in her life and will not hesitate to wage war if anyone threatens them. It’s hard not to admire Laurie.
Adelaide – Gemini (May 22-June 20)
In this scenario, it’s clear that Adelaide faces an adversary in her doppelganger from Jordan Peele’s movie “Us“. Much like the Gemini zodiac sign, Adelaide exhibits two distinct personas – one as a nurturing yet awkward mother and wife, the other as a determined and strategic individual. This transformation becomes evident when Red and their Tethered family arrive on the scene. As the story reaches its climax, we learn that Adelaide’s life has been built around deception – she’s not the innocent victim but rather the villain who skillfully manipulated her image. That final twist is a real shocker!
Sally Hardesty – Cancer (June 21-July 22)
In simpler terms, the pairing of Sally Hardesty and Leatherface in the horror genre could be likened to a perfect Zodiac match for villain and final girl. It’s quite plausible that under his gruesome exterior, Leatherface, who wears other people’s faces, embodies the emotional depth and sensitivity of Cancer. And it seems Sally Hardesty, initially portrayed as free-spirited, might share this astrological sign. Given her frequent screams and tears when pursued relentlessly by a massive man wielding a chainsaw, her reactions are entirely reasonable.
In the course of time, Sally’s exterior grew tougher and she became increasingly focused on confronting her tormentor. Yet, her innate kindness towards others remained unchanged. This is evident in the 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, where we witness her putting herself in harm’s way to save others, ultimately giving up her own life for their sake.
Ellen Ripley – Leo (July 23-August 22)
Ellen Ripley, without a doubt, stands among the greatest science fiction characters ever created. Her unwavering self-assurance, courage, grace under pressure, and sheer toughness make her an ideal match for confronting the fearsome Xenomorph creatures in the Alien series.
Similar to a lioness, Ripley doesn’t shy away from the spotlight and isn’t hesitant about standing her ground in disputes. She’s confident in her convictions, and you can be certain of that too. Her name, Ellen’s, continues to echo among the crowds as an undeniable legend and a trailblazer even after her passing.
Erin Harson – Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Virgos are widely admired within the Zodiac due to their justifiable popularity. When you have famous high-achievers such as Beyoncé and Kobe Bryant in your sign, it’s hard not to be ambitious, determined, and incredibly intelligent. This is reminiscent of Erin Harson from You’re Next, a frequently underestimated Final Girl who exhibits the strong-willed, business-like attitude that today’s youth often appreciate.
Growing up on a survivalist compound has honed her skills to a point where she’s exceptionally equipped to confront a band of armed assailants. She skillfully fortifies the residence and strategically positions traps to neutralize each threat. Her meticulous strategy in dealing with targets is nothing short of astonishing. Frankly, one could argue that her talents would make her an exceptional villain if she chose that path.
Grace le Domas – Libra (September 23-October 22)
In the thriller “Ready or Not,” Grace experiences a drastic shift from favorable to unfavorable situations. As a previous foster child, she anticipates a secure and joyful life when she marries into the prosperous le Domas family. However, her tranquility is short-lived as she becomes entangled in a perilous game of hide-and-seek, where the cursed family must sacrifice her before dawn to avoid their own demise.
Similar to a Libra, Grace embodies an eccentric and lively personality, always striving for harmony in her existence. Upon uncovering the truth, Grace becomes resolute on restoring equilibrium and avenging her new in-laws, employing all necessary measures. This versatile Libra never shies away from difficulties, and while she eschews violence, she’s not reluctant to take action when required to protect herself. Even during the most challenging times, Grace remains fashionable.
Naru – Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Picture yourself in a situation where you’re confronted with the same perilous challenges as Ellen Ripley and her comrades, but without any advanced technology at your disposal, given it’s 1719. Yet, manage to display the same level of dominance that they did. Naru doesn’t need to imagine this scenario, because in the movie Prey, she lived it.
The Comanche hunter and trained healer is a stealthy and natural born leader who is willing to face a threat she doesn’t fully understand with zero fear. She stings like a Scorpio when she’s in battle, striking fear into her enemies and becoming a full-fledged war chief with Xenomorph blood on her face.
Jess Bradford – Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Jess Bradford significantly shaped the concept of a contemporary final girl, even though her ultimate fate remains unclear in “Black Christmas” (1974). Unlike many horror heroines of her time, she resisted being portrayed as a damsel in distress or a stereotypical airheaded sorority girl. Instead, Jess’ character embodied strong feminist traits, from her assertive interactions with men to her choice to have an abortion. This decision, made during the era of Roe v. Wade, made her an iconic figure in horror films.
Sagittarians are known for being talkative, and Jess certainly doesn’t hold back with her words. However, just like other Sagittarians, she can sometimes be disorganized, leading to unfortunate incidents – as seen when she inadvertently causes Peter’s death due to a moment of panic. Despite this, Jess is fiercely independent, which is why she earns the title of “final girl” on our list representing the Sagittarius zodiac sign.
