10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU’s Director Is Planning a Sequel Trilogy, Will Honor Heath Ledger

During the late ’90s and early 2000s, it was an exhilarating era for young cinema enthusiasts, as we were treated to numerous outstanding ensemble movies across various genres featuring our beloved stars. From “Scream” to “She’s All That,” there were many memorable films. Among the best romance productions of that time, none could top “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999), starring Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, and Heath Ledger. There’s something enchanting about the dynamic between a rebellious bad boy and an antisocial/unpopular girl who eventually fall in love despite initially hating each other. “10 Things I Hate About You” is a timeless classic, but surprisingly, its director has announced plans for a sequel trilogy.

Indeed, it seems so. According to Gil Junger’s recent interview with People Magazine, there might be three more films set in the same universe on the horizon, but as of now, the initial sequel has not received approval.

It turns out that he has previously written trilogies with titles such as “10 Things I Hate About Dating“, “10 Things I Hate About Marriage,” and “10 Things I Hate About Kids“. Moreover, he seems eager to reintroduce some of the original characters in a new way. “I’d be thrilled to collaborate with Julia once more,” Junger mentioned. “She has had an immense impact on the lives of countless women. The Kat character resonated deeply with young women and was incredibly powerful.

Unfortunately, Heath Ledger passed away in 2008. Nevertheless, according to Junger, the upcoming sequel he’s working on will include some tribute to Ledger. It remains unclear whether this movie will focus on the dating escapades of Patrick and Kat’s child or take a different approach. Regardless, it appears that this decision is rather unexpected.

2009 saw a brief return of a TV series, lasting just 20 episodes, which wasn’t the first attempt to resurrect this tale. Remarkably, a Broadway adaptation of “10 Things I Hate About You” is in the pipeline. At present, no casting announcements have been made, and it’s still in its early stages. Whether we’ll witness a sequel trilogy for “10 Things I Hate About You” remains to be seen.
