10 Person Dexter Killed Who Didn’t Follow Harry’s Code In The Series

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for psychological thrillers and complex characters, I have closely observed Dexter Morgan’s journey throughout the series Dexter and its sequel, Dexter: New Blood. The Code of Harry, which Dexter follows to control his murderous tendencies, is a fascinating exploration of morality, ethics, and the blurred lines between good and evil.

In the course of the show, Dexter Morgan, a serial killer with the name Dexter, violates Harry’s Code – a set of principles instilled in him by his adoptive father to manage his homicidal urges. This inner voice or “Dark Passenger,” as Dexter refers to it, encourages him to perform good deeds alongside his killings, adhering to two primary rules: avoiding detection and sparing innocent lives.

I, as a devoted fan of Dexter, have observed how he repeatedly transgressed Harry’s Code despite its deep connection to his inner turmoil. In moments of self-defense, mercy killings, and impulsive decisions, Dexter deviated from the rules he had sworn to uphold in both the original series Dexter and its sequel Dexter: New Blood. Although Harry’s Code held significant weight due to its role in managing his dark psyche, Dexter found creative justifications for his actions that fell outside of those boundaries.

1. Debra Morgan

I, as a devoted follower of Dexter Morgan’s story, can attest that Debra, his adoptive sister, held a profound impact on his life. The news of Dexter’s passing left me in disbelief, as he made the agonizing decision to turn off his life support when Debra fell into a vegetative state following an attempted arrest of Oliver Saxton. Debra’s demise left me shattered, as her loss made it increasingly challenging for Dexter to come to terms with his actions and the deep-rooted love he held for his dear sister.

The debate surrounding Debra’s death in Harry’s Code is complicated due to Deb’s role in the murder of Captain Maria LaGuerta. However, the authenticity of the code is questionable since Dexter was an accessory. Debra’s death is especially sad as it was one of the rare moments when Dexter experienced genuine emotions for her, making it a poignant episode in Dexter’s personal history.

2. Sergeant Logan

In Dexter: New Blood, Dexter Morgan confronts and unintentionally takes the life of an innocent law officer, Sergeant Logan, despite his inner moral code, Harry’s Code, warning against it. Following his arrest for the suspected murder of Matt Caldwell and being linked to the Bay Harbor Butcher case, Dexter finds himself cornered by his past, ultimately leading him to silence Logan through choking and snapping his neck.

3. Elric Kane

After a decade of repressing his homicidal tendencies, Dexter’s peace was disrupted when his long-lost son Harrison located him. This confrontation resulted in Dexter defending himself against truck driver Elric Kane, who had been hired by Kurt Caldwell to capture Dexter. The subsequent series “Dexter: New Blood” picks up where this story leaves off.

In the new series “Dexter: New Blood,” Dexter is unexpectedly ambushed by Elric, who manages to wound him with a gunshot to the leg and a stabbing. It’s later revealed that Elric had been hired by Kurt to apprehend Dexter, adding a surprising twist to the storyline, demonstrating that seemingly insignificant characters can pose a threat to Dexter in the sequel.

4. Andrew Briggs

In the eighth season of Dexter, Andrew Briggs, an armed robber with a penchant for violence, started a secret romantic involvement with Debra Morgan. However, their relationship came to a tragic end when Debra, who was working undercover as a private investigator at the time, ultimately had to kill him in defiance of Harry’s Code. At first, Debra intended to arrest Briggs but grew fond of him, developed a drug habit together with him, and eventually shared a bed with him.

I once found myself in a perilous situation when I learned from Dexter that Briggs was marked for assassination by El Sapo. He attempted to alert me about the looming threat, but an altercation ensued between them. In the heat of the moment, Dexter ended Briggs’ life with a knife. However, this action went against Harry’s Code as Briggs had previously assaulted individuals, but no concrete evidence existed linking him to any murders.

5. Clint McKay

As a devoted admirer of Hannah McKay, I cannot help but feel enraged when recalling the deceitful actions of her father, Clint McKay. He was a master of lies, a con artist, an extortionist, and a compulsive gambler, leaving disappointment in his wake at every turn. The day he demanded $20,000 from Hannah was the last straw for me. I couldn’t bear to see this innocent young woman suffer any longer under the cruel manipulation of her own father.

6. Norm

At the Shady Lane Motel, Norm’s killing went against Harry’s Code, which Dexter Morgan adhered to while pursuing Jonah Mitchell. Initially cooperative, Norm tried to blackmail Dexter for money, putting him in a position where Dexter’s homicidal instincts took over.

7. Rankin

During season 4, my dark instincts took over uncontrollably when my beloved wife Rita was brutally murdered by the Trinity Killer. In the aftermath, I found myself at a crossroads and sought solace in an isolated moment with a man named Rankin inside an old, run-down store bathroom. In that moment of vulnerability, I let my frustration and pain spill out, showcasing the dangerous consequences of my compulsion to kill.

8. Alberto

As a seasoned crime scene investigator and forensic technician, I have seen my fair share of heinous crimes that have shaken me to my core. However, none have tested my moral compass quite like Dexter Morgan’s unique brand of justice. While some may argue that his killings were unjustified, I cannot help but empathize with the inner turmoil he faced, believing as he did that each act was for the greater good.

Dexter found himself in a perilous predicament as he saw Alberto threatening a pregnant woman with a gun, ordering everyone to hand over their valuable possessions into his hat. With no valuables on him, Dexter took drastic action, attacking Alberto and causing fatal injuries. This move went against Harry’s principles but could have saved the woman from being harmed by Alberto.

9. Jonathan Farrow

Dexter Morgan, a well-known killer, on occasion, acted swiftly and took the life of Jonathan Farrow, a fashion and S&M photographer, who Dexter suspected was involved in the deaths of some of his models. Although Dexter didn’t have absolute evidence, he believed that Farrow had mistreated and taken disturbing photographs of these women. Therefore, Dexter chose to take justice into his own hands and ended Farrow’s life.

10. Oscar Prado

Approximately three years after the event, Dexter Morgan found himself defending himself against Oscar Prado during an attempt to apprehend Freebo, a drug dealer responsible for the deaths of two college students. However, instead of encountering Freebo, Dexter came across Oscar – the drug-addled sibling of Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado and Sheriff Ramon Prado. Due to a faulty warrant, Oscar had been acquitted of any charges. In this unexpected encounter, Oscar attacked Dexter with a bayonet, and the two engaged in a violent struggle. Regrettably, Dexter ended up taking Oscar’s life.
