And so, the grand farce continues. In the hallowed halls of the Rayburn House Office Building, a gathering of esteemed lawmakers convened to bestow upon us the “Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act.” A bill of such unimpeachable clarity, one wonders how we ever managed without it. 🙄
The question, of course, was never really in doubt: who shall reign supreme over the digital realm? The CLARITY Act, in its infinite wisdom, has decreed that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shall henceforth be the arbiter of all things crypto-commodity. Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shall retain its iron grip on those crypto assets deemed “securities.” Because, naturally, the distinction between the two was always crystal clear. 😒
By a vote of 47-6, the U.S. House Agriculture Committee has seen fit to entrust the CFTC with this noble endeavor. One can only assume that the remaining six dissenters were simply unclear on the concept. 🤷♂️
