Well, folks, gather ’round and listen to this tall tale. Jameson Lopp, a right clever Yankee cypherpunk and software fella, has taken a gander at Bitbo, that there snazzy dashboard what’s supposed to know its onions about Bitcoin. But lo and behold, it’s gone and made a whoopsie, saying we’ve got ourselves 20,000,543 of them shiny digital coins!

But hold your horses! That’s about as true as saying I can fit a whale in my pocket. Fact is, we’ve only got 19,843,807 of ’em, with a mighty 1,155,974 still lurking in them thar hills, waiting to be dug up.

Seems like Bitbo’s been doing its own version of arithmetic, rather than asking a full node like it’s supposed to. And here I thought only politicians could fib with numbers!

Now, don’t you go worrying your pretty little head. Bitcoin’s still chugging along, adding about 900 coins to the pile each day. That’s a sight less than the gold rush, but it’ll do.

The Million Dollar Question

Lopp’s got his crystal ball out, and he’s saying the 20-millionth Bitcoin is still a ways offβ€”about a year, give or take. When that coin does pop out, it’ll be a bigger deal than a cat learning to play the fiddle.

And if you’re counting, we’re about a decade away from having 99% of all the Bitcoins there’ll ever be. After that, it’s a slow ride to the end of the line, with just a few more halving shindigs to go.

The last Bitcoin? Why, that’ll be more than a century from now, when the last halving dance is had. By then, I’ll be older than dirt!

The Missing Millions

Now, there’s a heap of Bitcoins what’s gone missing, like socks in the dryer. Millions of ’em, in wallets what haven’t seen the light of day since your granddaddy was a boy. Most of ’em are likely lost to the sands of time, unless some lucky soul finds a treasure map.

And let’s not forget old Satoshi Nakamoto, the riddle wrapped in an enigma and then some. He’s supposed to have mined a million coins. If he’s out there, he’s sitting on a goldmine bigger than Texas!
