Stephen Amell’s Suits LA Canceled: NBC Pulls Plug After Just One Season—Here’s Why

NBC has canceled Suits LA, the Suits spinoff starring Stephen Amell, after just one season.

Low Ratings Despite Big Names

Initially, NBC was optimistic about the legal drama due to its link to the initial “Suits” series and Stephen Amell’s participation. However, following a modest premiere, ratings didn’t pick up speed. The weekly audience has remained slightly above 1 million in Live+Same Day metrics, and unfortunately, the show didn’t resonate with streaming viewers either—contrary to expectations, as the original “Suits” series experienced a resurgence in popularity on Netflix.

The network experimented with various approaches to generate more excitement. This encompassed airing a Suits LA marathon on Thursday evenings and inviting original cast members of Suits back onto the show. Gabriel Macht made a three-episode appearance as Harvey Specter, Rick Hoffman reappeared as Louis Litt, and David Costabile was seen as Daniel Hardman.

Part of a Larger Programming Shift

The show “Suits LA” has been added to the growing list of canceled NBC series, which already includes “The Irrational”, “Found”, “Night Court”, and “Lopez vs Lopez”. NBC is making adjustments to their schedule to make room for their NBA coverage during the upcoming season.

This is also the second failed Suits spinoff after Pearson, which lasted one season on USA Network.

What Suits LA Was About

Stephen Amell portrayed the character of Ted Black, previously a federal prosecutor based in New York City, who later shifted to Los Angeles to manage prominent clientele. The series chronicled Ted’s journey dealing with office turmoil as he was unwillingly thrust into a position of authority within his law firm.

In this production, Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, Bryan Greenberg, Troy Winbush, Rachelle Goulding, Azita Ghanizada, and Alice Lee took on the main roles. Matt Letscher, Sofia Pernas, and Maggie Grace appeared frequently. Notable guest appearances included John Amos in his final performance, as well as Victoria Justice, Patton Oswalt, Yvette Nicole Brown, Brian Baumgartner, and Enrico Colantoni.

Behind the Scenes

Aaron Korsh, the brain behind the original Suits, took charge of production alongside executive producers David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, Anton Cropper, Genevieve Sparling, Rick Muirragui, and Jon Cowan. The production was handled by UCP, a division within Universal Studio Group.

Deadline was the first to report the news.
