As a seasoned gamer and a connoisseur of all things fantasy, I can confidently say that Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role of Geralt of Rivia is a move that will surely not disappoint fans of The Witcher series. While Henry Cavill may have left big shoes to fill, Hemsworth’s deep-rooted connection with the franchise, dating back to his gaming days over a decade ago, gives him an edge that cannot be overlooked.
The Witcher is concluding its Netflix journey with seasons four and five, marking Liam Hemsworth’s tenure as the White Wolf of the Continent. This will be Hemsworth’s span in the role, stepping into it after Henry Cavill departed unexpectedly. Despite being a die-hard fan of the series, Cavill’s exit left many surprised. As for Hemsworth’s affinity for all things monstrous and magical in The Witcher, it appears he was already an ardent admirer of The Witcher 3. However, his knowledge of the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski was limited when Netflix initially offered him a spot on the show. Interestingly, Hemsworth admitted he hadn’t read any of the books or watched the Netflix series before accepting the role. But rest assured, he made sure to familiarize himself with the source material before agreeing to the part.
On a recent episode of “Live With Kelly and Mark” (first reported by IGN), Hemsworth discussed his work on “The Witcher”. He mentioned that he has roughly three more weeks of filming left until he completes season four. Additionally, he shared his personal history with “The Witcher” before joining the show. This is what he expressed:
Back then, more than a decade ago, I gave the video game a spin, and let me tell you, it’s remained one of the greatest gaming experiences ever since. Fast forward two years, Netflix approached me with an offer to breathe life into that iconic character. Naturally, being a fan of the game myself, I jumped at the chance! However, before diving in headfirst, I felt it was important to catch up on the story’s development through the TV series and books.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, I’ve definitely immersed myself deeply into The Witcher universe now. I’ve delved into the lore through books, binge-watched the series, and replayed my favorite game countless times. Oh, and let’s not forget, I’ve been portraying Geralt on screen! So, my previous knowledge of The Witcher? It’s like nothing compared to this hands-on experience. I’m practically living and breathing the franchise at this point.
