As a seasoned gamer who’s been through countless story arcs and character evolutions, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement seeing Frank Grillo‘s transformation in the DC Universe. His journey from a boots-on-the-ground badass to a strategic administrator mirrors the progression of many iconic video game characters we all know and love.
It’s been suggested that Frank Grillo could play a significant role within the DC Universe, given his casting as Rick Flag Sr. At present, his character is slated to appear in “Creature Commandos”, “Superman”, and “Peacemaker” Season 2.
Grillo recently shared that he’ll take on a role similar to Nick Fury in the DCU, becoming the new leader of A.R.G.U.S., a position currently held by Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis).
In a recent chat, Grillo elaborated on his character’s responsibilities and the upcoming change in leadership. In the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’, he’s deeply immersed in the action, sporting the signature yellow shirt and fitting seamlessly into that universe. However, in ‘Superman’ and particularly ‘Peacemaker’, his character undergoes a transformation into a leadership position, assuming command from Waller as the new head of A.R.G.U.S.
In his new role, he shifts from a hard-edged, results-oriented military figure to a tactical executive, swapping his battle attire for business suits and concentrating more on managing the day-to-day activities.
In this position, he gains access to facts and concealed realities concerning his son that were previously unknown to him. Unveiling these secrets intensifies his desire for vengeance, driving the progression of his character’s narrative.
In Creature Commandos, I acquired the uniform – a yellow shirt and distinctive hairstyle that perfectly fits the setting. Later, in Superman and particularly Peacemaker, I step into the role previously held by Viola Davis as the head of Argus, transforming my position into more of an administrative role.
Currently, I’m dressed in a suit. Transitioning from a hands-on, tough persona to assuming command gives me a unique perspective, allowing me to perceive things that were previously hidden. This newfound authority only fuels my desire for vengeance further.
In the series “Peacemaker,” the plot delves deeper into Rick Flag’s character, a detail teased by Frank Grillo during the filming of Season 2. It is worth noting that Peacemaker fatally struck Rick Flag Jr. in “The Suicide Squad” to safeguard classified data.
Grillo confirms that revenge is a key theme, if not the main focus, of Peacemaker Season 2.
He points out,” he notes, expressing that although his character’s driving force is revenge, he must maintain a restraint to prevent overstepping boundaries—a delicate equilibrium that Grillo has relished delving into as an actor. He subtly hints at a potent and moving scene with John Cena, where this pent-up fury culminates in a climactic burst of emotion.
It really is. It doesn’t go without me. I still understand the capacity of which I have to serve this world. It’s a big responsibility, and so I have to be careful so that it doesn’t go too far, which has been fun as an actor to kind of balance that thing. John Cena and I have a pretty serious epic scene that culminates with all this anger.
