As a lifestyle expert with extensive knowledge in the world of celebrity estates and memorabilia, I cannot help but feel deeply saddened and concerned by the recent turn of events regarding the allegations against GWS Auctions and their handling of Elvis Presley’s memorabilia.
I, as a devoted fan and follower, have learned that on July 18th, Priscilla Presley took legal action against Brigitte Kruse, one of the four individuals named in her lawsuit. The reason for this step was allegations of financial mismanagement against her by Kruse, who is the owner of GWS Auctions. Now, it’s being reported that Graceland executives are scrutinizing the same auction house regarding the Elvis Presley Memorabilia. Stay tuned for further updates.
What are Graceland executives’ allegations?
According to People magazine, Joel Weinshanker, Elvis Presley’s managing partner, learned about the jacket at an auction when he noticed a black grommet jacket alleged to have been worn by Elvis in 1972 being put up for bidding.
The unique jacket belonging to the late singer is now part of Graceland’s collection, as stated by Weinshanker. During a visit to the estate, they pointed out the jacket and provided receipts as proof, adding, “We’re certain this is the only one in existence, and it’s safely stored in our archives.”
Graceland is wondering about the jacket among other things up for auction at GWS Auctions. Also included are several of the late singer’s jewelry pieces and his 1962 Lockheed Jetstar for bidding, according to the report.
The publication’s article states that many items from the auction, as reported, came with letters verifying their authenticity for Priscilla. However, some of these letters contained objects that Elvis had given to Priscilla after they separated, such as a pair of gold “Aloha From Hawaii” snowman cufflinks. These findings raised concerns among Graceland’s executives.
The renowned singer obtained the cufflinks, hailing from Hawaii, as a memento of his triumphant 1973 television special, Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii, based on auction house information.
Weinshanker questioned the publication, “After such a long time without face-to-face interactions, how can she be certain of Elvis’ actions or inactions?”
Joel Weinshanker on why the estate has a good idea about what Elvis Presley owned
Graceland has an extremely detailed inventory of Elvis Presley’s belongings, as Vernon Presley meticulously maintained his son’s financial records over the years and shared this information with them.
Due to Elvis’ early legal issues in his adulthood, Vernon meticulously saved every receipt. They could provide information about Elvis’ whereabouts in 1962 by asking them, as they had a good idea of what the late singer did based on his spending habits.
Previously, Kruse acknowledged the existence of records regarding the musician’s family possessions. However, she voiced her doubts that every single item owned by the musician had been thoroughly documented.
She spoke to the media outlet and asked, “How can they be completely sure they have everything? It’s impossible.” Kruse pondered over the question of who’s memories are worth buying if Pricilla’s aren’t, in reference to the rumored purchases made by the late entertainer when he wasn’t with her.
For those unfamiliar, Elvis and Priscilla were wed from 1967 to 1972, and during their union they welcomed a daughter named Lisa Marie Presley into the world.
