In the initial phases of creating George & Leo, Hirsch had to return to New York City every Friday to take care of his young daughter, Montana Eve Hirsch. He recalls sharing this with Newhart who comforted him, “Don’t worry, you’ll catch that plane every time we film.” Known for his exceptional control over the show’s pace, Newhart made sure productions ran on time, allowing Hirsch to make his flights. Grateful for Newhart’s empathy and assistance, Hirsch deemed it an “extraordinary act of kindness.”
Remembering Bob Newhart’s Legacy
Bob Newhart sadly passed away on July 18, at his residence in Los Angeles, following a succession of brief health issues. Throughout an impressive career that lasted over six decades, Newhart became a household name with his memorable roles in The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart. His groundbreaking debut comedy album, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” was released in 1959 and reached the top spot on Billboard’s album chart, earning two Grammy Awards. Newhart’s achievements extended to television and film, with significant guest appearances on shows like The Big Bang Theory, ER, and films such as Legally Blonde 2 and Elf.
Reflecting on his experiences working with Newhart, Hirsch showed great gratitude for the hilarious actor who was not only kind and thoughtful but also a privilege to collaborate with. Newhart’s death signifies the conclusion of an era, leaving behind a treasured legacy for his loved ones and devoted fanbase.
